I don't know that BY is first ballot guy, but think he should be there...… I think his late career move to DE saved his chances of the HOF.
The problem with us old 49er fans is we think of that young, penetrating, cant be blocked DT.....but the truth was that was only part of his career. He had some post injury years that he was pretty average.

He did it all, he is our Justin Smith of the early 2000s. He did everything asked of him, worthy of at least the 49ers HOF. Loved BY, and always will. No one has worn #97 since he retired, hoping they retire the number.
Easily one of my all-time favorite 49ers. Love BY.

Horrible injury. BY coming back and playing at a high level was nothing short of a miracle.

No doubt, I remember that injury more clearly than any other. Pretty sure they were playing the Raiders, but I remember the broadcast had the perfect angle to show Norton's helmet come in and mangle BY's leg.
So sad.

I love BY, one of my all time favorites. but other than his superbowl ring he won on his rookie year on a already stacked team, He hasn't really had a great statistical career.
His best season is in 96 with 11.5 sacks. otherwise he's only had one other season with double digit sacks.
Again a favorite by all niner fans, but by others not so much.
I can see why he wouldn't make it.

It was ugly. We were playing the Giants on MNF. I think you could be thinking of Napoleon McCallum vs the Niners on MNF in '94 also a gruesome injury.

Compare his stats to Sapps. DT's don't put up a ton of numbers....especially in the era he played.

John Randle was an absolute stud.
Yep, he was the original Aaron Donald.

BY was a Rock on defense for our Niners. He was always in the right place at the right time, strong, hard working and a great player....I don't know what our record was when he played for us, but I'm sure it was impressive....he deserves to be inducted into the NFL HOF
