That non flag was the right call. we called timeout so he couldnt have gotten penalized on that.

Yes.
You CANNOT spike the ball anymore except after scoring a TD.
You can't even spike it after a big play that is non scoring. But to do it because you are pissed at the refs blatently then go yell at the head ref, deserved a flag for sure.
