Wow. Interesting.
yup.. i thought of that when the falcons beat the seahawks.. last time the niners played in the championship vs atlanta, i remember that game.. i want us to pound the falcons.. gore to have 3 rushing TDs.. and Colin run all over them!
We should have won that game, but to be honest I don't think we would have beat Minnesota that year. That was their season, they had it made, and then Gary Anderson blows it for them. I would have loved to see them against the Broncos that season, cause everyone knew Atlanta was going to get stomped in the ground by that team.

Probably the last true WCO RB we ever had and one of my favourite players ever.
I appreciate how Hearst played for the 49ers but I don't want a reminder of that game to start the game this weekend. No honorary captains, especially one to commemorate a loss.
I Loved Hearst.
And the thing was, on the play Hearst broke his ankle he had just cut back to his left and was about to tear off a huge gain or even go for 6. I'm pretty sure it was the opening series, but game was over after that.

Even though it would've been a tough game for the 9ers, I do think they would've edged out a win in that matchup. The Vikings had an AVERAGE defense that season and I felt that the Falcons were the better team and would beat the Vikings.
Turns my stomach just thinking about what Chuck Smith did to Hearst! Damn that was ugly!
"Scooby" as I believe we called him is from Georgia and still lives there today. I just think this would be a case of getting a "do over" in history. I don't really believe in that jinx stuff.

I think that if Hearst hadn't got hurt that the Super Bowl sure would have been much more interesting. Its hard to say how we would have matched up with the Vikings.
I'd rather give the honor to the guys that earned it this year, not a guy who was there for a playoff loss in the past. It doesn't seem appropriate to me.
"Sorry, Frank. Garrison Hearst gets the nod over you."

Atlanta would have lost if Anderson made that field goal. That's ultimately what won it for them. He didn't miss a field goal I think for 3 years, and the most important one, he missed.

Had we played Minnesota, I don't know how it would have worked. Probably would have come down to the final possession. I'll always believe Minnesota would have edged out the Broncos in that Super Bowl though.
Would also like to add that Moss also has an unfinished score to settle from '98 with Atlanta....

...and of course the Pats as well if we face them.

Terrell Davis would've ran all over the Vikings' average D. Shannon Sharpe would've given their secondary issues as well. The only way I see the Vikes winning that game is if Moss made a couple of difference making big plays.
Was at work listening to the game on the radio with a bunch of coworkers when he went down. Man I remember it like it was yesterday.
