I already stated how good I thought the linebackers were on that 2012 team. Then you look at that line with big Isaac at nose tackle and Cowboy and Ray McDonald holding down the ends and you can say we had one of the best front 7's in Niner history. They were so good that they masked the deficiencies in the secondary which had Carlos Rogers and Tarell Brown at corners and Whitner and Goldson at safety. Rogers was the best but was near the end of his career like Sherman is now. The other 3 were known as big hitters but not great in coverage much like our current crop of DB's. Let's hope our new front 7 can have the same effect and help make the backs look better.

To each their own. Regardless how you feel about how they left, in the end they were both all-time great linebackers for this franchise who gave us fans unforgettable memories

and most of us do not care how they left us.

Bill Walsh certainly didnt care how they left.

Forgot he was even a Raider until yesterday

....still better than Patrick Willis leaving the way he did

Disagree. Pat was 100% 49ers while he wore the uniform. Bo b***hed and moaned about his reduced role and then demanded a release. Pat embraced mentoring Bo and wasn't a jerk when his role was reduced as Bo's grew.
anyone b***hing about willis and how he went out.... did we really want to see in willis what we saw in bow at the end.. unable to dominate on the field like he once did. no i am glad patrick went out on his own. we actually started to see the regress of willis in trhe 8 and 8 season though most of us were in denial at the time

EXCELLENT call cc!
Thanks for the memories Bow. You were an all-time great 49er. We all appreciate how you helped make the franchise relevant once again. Thanks for stopping by one last time.

Plus he was going to be stuck in the Tomsula and Kelly years wasting away for those 2 years.

Willis retired because his feet were shot. He was done. People crying about how he left have some personal abandonment issues or something.
Classy move by Bo. He and Willis will always be known as the greatest MLB tandem in the history of the game. people seriously mad at Willis for being honest and hanging it up when he couldnt play? He couldve easilly got paid on his name alone and milked this franchise for a few more years and he didnt. he retired a life long 49er instead of becoming a whore later in his career like Rice, T.O. and some of the others going from team to team at the end of his career.

Trying to play with a foot injury is no joke either.

One of the greats whose HOF-level run was cut too short. He'll never see it because he didn't play at a high level long enough, but boy was he great during that run. I also think he should've been DPOY in 2013. I'll never forget him holding onto what SHOULD HAVE been a fumble recovery in the NFCCG despite being injured.

I'm still pissed about that entire sequence. The fans throwing s**t at him as he was carted off and the fact the NFL changed the fumble recovery rules after that season specifically because that call was BS.

That loss for me is right up there with Minnesota in 87, NGCCG in 90 and 92, and the Packers in 95. Those playoff losses hurt more than the others because I am fully convinced that had we won those games, we would've brought home the Lombardi.

Bill Walsh certainly didnt care how they left.

"You only have about 2 years left here." "I don't think you can make the team, and if you do, I want you to take half pay." "I only want your good years."

Walsh was brutal. I probably would hate the man if I were a 49er great and he told me those things.

Some of us older guys that have arthritis or gout know what it's like to get around with bad feet let alone play football.

Imagine if Bow Willis and Borland were playing together 100% healthy in body and mind
