Hunter vs James

Even three way split with Frank. Keeps everybody involved, but doesnt over burden with too many carries through the year. LMJ might see a few more outside runs and screens, while Frank might see more up the gut, but Hunter is a nice hybrid of the two...its shouldnt make it easy to key in on the play by personel...they are versitile enough to mix it up.

Hunter has a bigger body to take the pounding as a starting rb. Lamichael James was learning how to run out of pro sets and other formations not used by Oregon, but he started to come on and will be a good in a rotation with Hunter. I'm hoping Lattimore gets drafted and is given a shot next year at the starting job.

Hunter as our #2 if he returns well, otherwise James with another offseason and some exp could be a more than capable #2.

James also has the chance to put the ball on the ground on any given play. I can't be the only one who gets scared whenever he touches the ball. He fumbled like 5 times last year (a couple were after the whistle, but they were close) and he only played in 7 games..

Just for a refreshing of my memory, but did Hunter completely tear his achilles or just partially? I'd think it be a different time frame for recovery if he completely tore it.

I think LMJ was drafted with an eye towards moving to a spread offense under Kap. Hunter and Gore are more used to the pro style sets, and Gore said it was an adjustment running out of the spread. i just don't want to see us become predictable where LMJ comes in and we only run out of the pistol and vice versa with Hunter/Gore.

They never said, but the fact that he will be ready for camp seems to indicate it was a partial tear.

Partial can be a 5-6 month recovery, full is more like 12-18 months.

This may be true but before the injury to Hunter he did take some snaps from the pistol formation. La michael seems to run better to the outside while Hunter is better at between the tackles. And like some are saying I do hold my breath that La Micheal doesn't fumble.
Hunter is the guy to spell Gore, and LMJ is the guy that should be split wide of kap, in backfield, and after first 3 reads, if nobody open, lateral or pass to LMJ in backfield. I don't think there are two guys in the entire league who can tackle LMJ in the open field (space , if you wish) . When drafted I was ecstatic, because I knew Coach H was going to use him as the young reggie bush...get him the ball with lateral or pass and see if anyone can tackle him. I still don't think anybody can tackle him with room to run. I was dead wrong about the way they were using LMJ, but still think he should be used in the slot, split wide of Kap, and should get the ball a lot more times than he has. I think if he runs between the tackles after a few short yrs his career is done. Given the ball in space, he lasts a lot longer and is very capable of scoring every time he gets the ball in the backfield(not on a hand-off).
Ironically, we went away from screen passes, which I love and are always a staple in the WCO.

More than anything, I just want to see a hybrid, balanced WCO and pistol attack. Our QB has proven he can play in both, and we have the RBs to do it. Gore and Hunter are both great in picking up the blitz, and can swing out for the screen and make a big play. We went away from the WCO and playing under center too much.

+1 Put LMJ in space and watch him create.

I also hated this post.

Gore retires a 49er. Period.

Jersey better be retired too with at least ONE ring.
if hunter was playing instead of james, we may be superbowl champs....

jus sayin...

Maybe but I think James did an alright job filling that role given he is a rookie. Looks like a decent return man too definitely helped us win a few games. I like that we got them both though. Neither has to take many hits.
Am I the only one that thinks Hunter can be an effective full time back? He's very similar in size to MJD, not quite as stalky but not "small" either. Plus with LMJ's getting carries too it's not like he's gonna have to tote it 35 times a game. IMO, Hunter is the heir apparent to Gore at the moment.
Well, mebemused, we may like it but it hasn't happened....yet.
