Levi's applies for trademark on 'Field of Jeans'

When Jed York and the San Francisco 49ers announced the partnership with Levi Strauss for the naming rights to the team's new stadium in early May the nickname jokes flew hard and fast.

Levi's has applied for two trademarks pertaining to the 49ers' new stadium.

York quipped that the best one he heard was "Field of Jeans." "Big Button Fly" and "The Big Zipper" were others suggested by the deluge of the late-night comedian want-to-bes.

While we were all joking, Levi apparently was taking notes.

The jean company applied for a trademark on the "Field of Jeans" phrase, Mike Rosenberg of the San Jose Mercury News reported this week.

Levi also applied for a trademark of the phrase, "Win One for the Zipper," which CEO Chip Bergh joked a coach could say in the locker room.

These might be just premptive trademarks. Companies do that all the time.

Both of those trademarks are horrible choices. I really hope nobody uses those phrases. Super lame...

They do not bother me, but I have never paid very much attention to a stadium's name or nick name.
I don't really care to much for the "Field of Jeans", but when you pay as much as Levi's did, then i guess you can call it whatever you would like.
Field of Jeans?

Good god please don't do it JEd....

Do what? Levi is just making sure they get their cut if somebody wants to make something with that term on it. Has nothing to do with Jed.

I don't know just overreacting.

I just don't want that nickname to stick in the media.
I'm sure those idiots at ESPN will come up with something

Sorry but field of jeans is just too fruity
How bout Levi's Strauss house
Of even Levi's field
But please folks this is a 1billion dollar stadium
The fun of the field of jeans pun will quickly fade and become the kind of joke where people are laughing at you more so than with you

I reiterate my choice for a nickname: "Denims Den"

- alliterative and easy to say, with a poetic balance of syllables
- depending on the context can be both benignly witty or ominous
- not as clumsy as "Denims Dungeon" which has too many syllables and sounds like its trying too hard to sound menacing
- as already mentioned, references "Devil's Den" a bloody part of the Battle of Gettysburg
- of course ties into the whole jeans theme, but not too overtly that its corny

it'd be cool if they at least use it for a section of the stadium...
Nope
