Wow, that's BOLD !! LOL. But, hey it makes sense, there is no point to drag on the pain if the guy just doesn't have it. Might as well cut your losses and draft a proper top wideout next year.
Boldin and KW and who else????

maybe we mortgage a draft or two and get a Julio Jones type...

There are a number of possibilities here. We could well start off with Kassim Osgood if the young guys are still not quite ready as he is the only proven commodity here. Remember when both Mario and Kyle went down ? We went to Moss, so same rationale here for Osgood as well. But, I can see a couple of the young guns stepping up. Could be Marlon Moore, could be Ricardo Lockette. So, we could phase in Moore and Lockette to rotate with Osgood. As for Quinton Patton, he is a rookie, we can give him a bit more time.

The thing is, I am worried that Baalke and Harbaugh might force the issue given Jenkin's 1st round pick status. They might just throw him out there and see what happens. The preseason games will be very telling. If Jenkins clearly shows he can't cut it, then they might not risk it. But, if he does OKish, there is a chance they may just play him to see whether he can show up with more game time.

Well, I did suggest that when I started a thread a few months back about finding a franchise WR and I got slammed by many here. Personally, I don't care, I stand by my own view. To answer your question, if there is a Julio Jones type guy in next year's draft, we should seriously think about it. But, at the moment, I am looking at Brandon Coleman who is projected to be a late 1st or early 2nd, so may be we won't have to exactly mortgage the house. We might probably still have to trade up, but if we could trade up to get Eric Reid in the mid-teens, I don't see it being a major issue.

I'm not in favor of that, if you have the right draft position to get a top WR do it, but don't sell the franchise down the river for a WR. Julio Jones is good but it hasn't got ATL over the hump.

Well, Brandon Coleman doesn't require you to sell the franchise. Bottom of 1st or top of 2nd perhaps. Even if it requires trading up to say the mid-teens is no big deal. We are not talking about Tavon Austin here. We went up to the mid-teens to get Eric Reid, so I don't see any problem there. Either way, the point is we need a bonafide top wideout. If Jenkins really turns out to be a bust, it is Baalke and Harbaugh's job to rectify the mistake and set us on the right track again. It is not about finger-pointing, it is about sorting things out.

I'm not worried about pointing fingers or saving face etc etc. I hope that Jenkins is good enough to make it unnecessary, but how the Crabtree contract situation and everything pans out may affect it too.

If it doesn't cost us anything more than it cost to trade up for Reid I think that would not be too expensive. What I would deem too costly would be something like the J.J. Stokes trade, lose a first rounder etc.

okay, then what about the pedo-stache that TBrown is sporting.

He can't afford to shave anymore with the 2 million he lost out on.

Yea, don't worry, Brandon Coleman should be well within our means. However, even if Crab re-signs, I still say we will need to draft a top wideout. We all saw how injuries could be really cruel happening at the most inoppotune time. Currently, we just don't have the depth, I mean we have the headcounts, but they are yet to be able to step up. Could you imagine if we didn't have Moss last season and had to play Jenkins after Manningham and Williams went down ? Not that Moss was all that great, but it really would have been a big problem.
I know a lot of people are not happy with AJ Jenkins so far and many have already written him off as a bust. The guy is just starting training camp of his second season. Typically, WRs take about three years to develop in the NFL. Look how long Vernon took to really catch fire. Have a little patience and let things play out. Our team is in a much better situation than we were just three years ago. Besides, if Jenkins does become a bust, it was a late first round pick anyway. Overall, Trent Baalke has been masterful drafting to build up this team.

Training camp just started.

Before we get to next year's draft, both the NFL and the colleges have to play some games and there is free agency.

Coleman might much higher ranked than he is now. Jennings might become a good wide receiver.

Dan,

Noone is trashing Baalke and Harbaugh. We are all human beings and people do make mistakes. I think the sentiments of many here is that we will give Jenkins a last opportunity this season to make it happen. Other than that, frankly we just don't have the luxury of time anymore. Other teams have become just too good, to be successful in this league, is imperative you always stay one step ahead of your competition. Is nothing personal.

2 years should be a pretty good sampling size for Jenkins. If he can't make it happen this year than I'm all for cutting him next year and give someone else a chance.

The dude had 180 yards against us in the playoffs. Given Atlanta's defensive inadequacies and lack of draft picks, maybe we're in a better position to trade away some picks to get a Calvin Johnson type of receiver. Don't think there are any 6-5 wide receivers coming soon. We shall see. The Patriots have gotten by with small quick guys and huge tight ends.
