week 14 2004
week 4 2005 (though fitz did have a nearly identical performance)
week 13 2005(again nearly identical performance)
week 1 2007
week 1 2008
week 10 2008
week 14 2009

So out of the 11 games we played against the cardinals where they had both Boldin and Fitz, 7 of those games Boldin out played fitz. Once again, we have actually played really well against Fitz throughout his career, although he has givien us "fitz" of his own, but the reality is, when the cardinals had both players, generally speaking, Boldin was the one that gave us the most problems problems.

You make it sound like he stood out and dominated us more than Fitz. I think he was more of a dominant force (Boldin) due to lack of defensive talent. Became a NON factor as years went on with him in Arizona, as we acquired better talent. Brown always was always decent against him.

That's true, if anyone we DID keep in check it was definitely none other than Larry. Surprisingly rose to the occasion with him. '09 we kept them both in check.

Here to settle Boldin's impact against the niners as a member of the Cardinals

13 games

80 receptions - 6.1 Receptions Per Game
990 yards - 76 Yards Per Game
7 Touchdowns - 0.53 Touchdowns per game

averages out to 16ppg in a Fantasy PPR format league

under most definitions you could consider Anquan Boldin a major contributing factor for the cardinals vs the 49ers. However... I believe it should be noted that his best years were when we sucked horribly i.e. 2005

By Comparison our #1 threat against the Cardinals, Frank Gore, produced the following... and Anquan wasnt even the cards #1 weapon
(not counting 05 when he was a backup)

13 Games

1,036 yards - 79 yards per game
13 Touchdowns - 1 TD per game

But to be fair, if you are gona make a statement that he was most dominate when we sucked, you also have to then look at the numbers the guy opposite of him had, a guy that will likely be in the HOF. He out performed Fitz quite a bit against us throughout their careers. In fact he did twice in 2008 and once in 2009 later in his cardinals career. He also had a HOF guy opposite of him catching footballs. How many balls that went to fitz would have gone to boldin if fitz wasnt there? But i do admit, our defense played exceptionally well against the cardinals WR's for the most part later on in his career with the cardinals.

Yeah, that's the problem with using the tag on a receiver - it's way too big a number.

Well, frankly it doesn't matter what position it is, any franchise tag will cost more than Anquan's current $6 mil unless you are talking about kicker and punter which is $3 mil. Anquan is nearing the end of his career, I can't see him asking for much. At most may be $4 mil a year perhaps ?

I wouldn't be surprised if we trade up in next years' draft for a big WR (a la Falcons / Julio Jones)

In any case, we are still short of a vertical receiver even if we can keep Anquan. We need one of those tall, big and fast guys that can play the deep ball, otherwise we are just wasting Kap's big arm. That guy can easily throw 50, 60, 70 yards.

Clearly Vernon can be out downfield receiving threat. He's big enough and fast enough.

I field comfortable with Johnson manning the TE position while Vernon as out as a WR.

Are you suggesting to move Vernon off TE ? What I am trying to say is we need a full-time big, fast wideout on the outside.

where else would the endzone be. and the old school 49ers in the endzone, not the gay modern one

The new one is the same font as the helmet logo, which blows the old font away. I always thought it looked weak even though I have loved the team since the 80 season. Guess it is just a matter of personal taste.
