In my opinion, it is almost impossible to teach KR, you need to have that vision and lightning decisiveness whereby in most part is instinctual. That is why LMJ can't do it, he is thinking too much and relying too heavily on what Seely has taught him. So, for now, I think the WR corps will look something like this :

• Boldin
• Moore
• Williams
• Baldwin
• Patton
• Hawkins

They just might need to open up that 7th spot. I don't know how important do they see Osgood for kick-off recovery. Other than that, Collie might be too risky due to his concussion history. Hall might have had a chance if Hawkins didn't show he could return kicks, so I don't think it looks good for him. With Jenkins traded and Lockette cut, Jacobs is worth keeping, probably stash him onto the practice squad if they can manage it. I am so glad that Jenkins is no longer here, it really makes things a bit easier and the receiving corps better too.

I'm sorry. Hawkins won't be on the roster unless he really impresses between now and final cuts (he's got an uphill battle). He simply hasn't proved to be a consistent player at the WR position, which is what we are most in need of. Yes, he came on late, but had two drops that were inexcusable in his first game. We don't need a project who is making mental mistakes. We need a return man, but I think Williams, despite his mistakes in the NFCCG has proven to be an electric return man, and Cox and James have shown potential. So yes, guys deserve to overcome their mistakes, and Hawkins also deserves to overcome his errors, but we're not really in a position to give a roster spot to a guy who hasn't shown he is a consistent player at the WR position. He has a shot, but to put him on the roster now is premature. We need to wait to make this determination until we can see his final body of work. As it stands now, he wouldn't make this team, imo.

OK, let's have a friendly wager then. I am sticking by my own view. The truth of the matter is if Hawkins can prove he is a bonafide return man in the next game, he stays, book it !! You don't need to be a star receiver to earn yourself a spot on the roster if you have other valuable contributions such KR in this case which is sorely needed in this team. It might be a little premature, but you can see he has that swagger about him and most decent return men has that swagger, from Hester to the infamous Jacoby Jones and even the rookie Tavon Austin. Hawkins might not have done much KR before, but if you look at that return tonight again and again you can see his vision, decision-making and confidence.

Man, Kap was ripping it yesterday. Dude has got a cannon for an arm. Glad we got him.

That was awesome! I like the way Vance punished the next DB!

I worry that Baldwin thinks every pass is a jump ball. If he makes that catch without the jump he has a chance to make the safety miss and maybe run another 50 yards. Jumping when you don't need to takes away all of your options.

It was short, but he jumped and caught it in his chest. When he's in the air, he can't cut or change speed ... he doesn't have those options. Had he not jumped he would have options about what to do next, he could break a tackle, he could stop and let the safety go by then run. I'm not saying it's likely, but the jump took away his options.

It may have already been discussed, but it is all over this morning about the low block by Joe Looney on Kevin Williams. It was clearly a cheap shot and one I hope does not come back to haunt the 49ers in some form of retaliation in the future. Some might consider it a "rookie mistake," but I don't buy it. Anybody that has played this long knows the rules. You just don't cut someone low like that.

Just saying...

McDonald looked so much like Rathman on that play.

I believe that McDonald will prove to be the most important addition to the offense this season. He can do things that Vernon Davis cannot do which will free Davis to be a greater threat in his strength.

All things being equal you prefer a WR that attacks the ball and secures the catch to one who waits. You trade "potential" big play for better odds of catching the pass and preventing an interception

Remember the AJJ v. Hall reception not too long ago where one WR attacked and the other waited for it?

You want a player to attack the ball with good technique. You are supposed to catch with your hands, and if you can reliably catch it with your hands jumping is bad technique.
