The 49er's weaknesses from a year ago have been up graded for the most part. With Mangini studying the 49ers past tendencies, we should be well prepared. One play that stands out from the last Superbowl, is when Suggs routinely hit Kaep after he handed the ball off. A good counter punch would be to send a guard to trap that rusher and put him on his back side. I have a feeling the Packers will try and do the same thing with Clay Mathews. If they plan it right, the Niners should be very successful, as the Packers are not the Ravens and Mathews is not Suggs

there is a point where the QB is protected still...if the QB backs up then he can't be hit, from what I've been hearing during the Preseason games

Engage Patriots Pocket-Pass Mode. Run the up score early - just don't ease off in the second.

Clay Matthews is trying to get into Kap's head, which will not work. Why would he announce what they are planning to do on defense before the game? Besides, people still seem to not understand that the pistol is a formation, out of which you can run a multitude of plays. They still talk about the pistol as if it equals the read-option.

I really hope they compromise down-field coverage in order to assign a spy on the QB. Those guys are crapping all kinds of pants at the prospect of a divisional repeat.

Clay Matthews says the Packers are going to hit the quarterback to stop this "fake offense". I suspect they think they are going to do the same thing the Ravens did in the Super Bowl, but I am sure we are not going to just give up the QB run like we did and will plan for extra protection to mark off the spy.

The Packers keep on saying/repeating that they've spent the entire offseason learning the read-option and how to defend it.
Ok.

Why does everyone think that our playbook is exclusively the read option? We are a smashmouth running team with a sprinkle of option plays and a dynamic passing game

Learning how to defend it and having the right personal to defend it are two different things. Even if they figured it out and make Kaep a pocket passer, their defense isnt good enough to stop him. Rodgers will do a lot to keep them in it. Close game, but the 49ers should win.

What Clay Matthews does not understand is that while he may consider the offense fake it is more diverse and potent than his own. And he had better believe that his QB will get hit Much more than Kap will. We have that same plan: knock Aaron Rodgers punk a$$ out. Two can play that game except we will do it better. He is not doing anything but stoking our team to annihilate the Packers

It's very obvious what many teams are going to try to do to stop the read option this year. But the teams that run the read option, like San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, amongst others, know what these teams will end up trying to do to their QBs. You don't think these teams have a formula for stopping the opposing team from getting a free shot on the QB?
Nonetheless, San Francisco's base offense isn't even the read option. It's more of a game plan offense. We used it against Green Bay in the playoffs because Green Bay played a lot of man-to-man and turned their backs to the QB, allowing Kaep to get 20 yards downfield before anyone knew what was going on. But against Atlanta, I think we ran the read option at most 5 times. We're not a read option team. We just use it from time to time when defenses like to play man-to-man and their defensive ends start crashing too hard. I'm guessing Kaep will come in and light them up in the pocket.

all the pack has to do is hold us to FG's. Then Cobb will return every KO for a TD.

This. The 49ers offense is NOT the read-option. The RO is only one wrinkle in our diverse offense. If the Packers' game plan is to stop the RO exclusively, they are going to get burned badly. It's easy to say that they're going to implement a certain plan before the game. It's another matter to actually do it come game time, as the offense will counter what the defense is giving them and throw new wrinkles at them. If Clay Matthews wants to play the entire game as if he is trying to stop the RO that is perfectly fine by me.
