We get to test a rookie left tackle. Aldon is drooling.

For the Packers to succeed, they will have to keep CK7 and the rest of the Niner offense off the field. This means developing a run game and short, pinpoint passing on behalf of Rodgers. I think Green Bay has the talent to do this. The moment that Aaron starts hanging out in the pocket in an attempt to wing the ball deep, is the moment where the 49ers take control.

But I still believe the Pack can take it to our defense through a dink-n-dunk, three yards and a cloud of dust, offensive approach. This keeps the 49er offense off the field and gives the Pack a chance to take this game as they wear down the defense in the 2nd half.

I truly think this is the one true chance they have to win this game. Defensively, they aren't that strong enough to stop a multi-faceted 49er attack, even with a receiving corps at half strength. When I hear Greg Roman start mentioning Geometry when it comes to devising a plan of attack, I get chills.

I'll take this approach. As long as we contain the vertical passing game, Rogers can dink and dunk all he wants. In 3-4 downs, mistakes are going to happen and they will need to throw it down field eventually. I doubt their running game does s**t against the front 7.
Last year, I was worried about this game. This time not so much. The biggest concern is Eric Reid on third and longs. He will be tested, as teeeoh said.

True. But Reid is going to test Rodgers, so he better be ready too.
I get the feeling of a bit of over-confidence in here. It's week 1 and crazy stuff happens all the time. Bad teams usually play their best football the first 3-4 weeks (Arz Cardinals last year) and fizzle. I'm not saying the Packers are bad, but they had all offseason (as did the Niners) to prepare. They have a huge chip on their shoulders because the Niners man-handled them 2 times in a row.

IMO, I am almost certain they will stop the read-option, but at all costs. They will focus their LB's and DE's solely on Kaep and our RB's. It will leave WRs wide-open and hopefully Kaep can find them. I do think the Niners will win this game, but it will be a battle of attricion. It will be close, maybe 34-27 Niners.

The real answer to stopping the read option is playing disciplined football. I know the popular answer has been to hit the qb but that's not it. The read options most powerful component is that it burns edge rushers. Defenses don't want to acknowledge that they pretty much have to stop running one of the staple things they do to stop an offense. The packers have a few choices to make this weekend. Rush kap and get burned or give kap 3 or 4 or maybe 5 seconds to throw. They are about to get their ass's whipped and they know it. you can feel it in their interviews.

They may limit the read option at times but I don't think they will be able to stop it completely. I won't even be surprised if the offense doesn't even use it. They may test it once or twice to see how the Packer D lines up.
I'm not as confident as I'd like to be about this game. On paper, it just looks like a Niners win... on paper.

I actually think Stanford has provided the best blueprint to defend the read option, which is to come at it slowly with the edge rushers, in order to make it more difficult for the QB to make the read. However, the problem here is that the 49ers are not JUST a read option team; they have a very versatile offense that can hurt you in a variety of different ways. So successfully slowing down the Niners offense cannot be accomplished simply by focusing on the read option.

I'm confident, but I always am cautious before any game. Come Sunday I will be really nervous. However, as you said, on paper, we should win.
