I think being IR'ed after week 6 will be a blessing in disguise. Willis has logged a lot of mileage on his body and an extended offseason will do his body good. If Justin Smith retires, Willis will be the undisputed leader of the defense.

P52 The type of man that can will you over when you need it. From the life adversities he has faced and the way he carries himself through out his career shows the kind of man he is. The integrity and loyalty he has displayed makes him one of my favorite 49ers of all time!!!
Get healed up, Find your strength, and Destroy this season P52 style!!!

Willis always was the leader. He leads the team huddle, and took over as the on field captain as a rookie.
Smith leads by example, but I think Willis is the captain of our D.

If there's anyone I would bet on being a lifer with us, it's Pat.
I think letting this lingering injury heal for good will see him come back even better than he has been in years.

I think you are right. Plus, he will have Bow next to him and Borland behind him, so those two will push him even more. Don't be surprised if he is in the running for comeback player, or DPOY.

I don't really have sports hero's, but if I did, Patrick Willis would be it. One thing I am hoping for going forward, is that we start drafting guys like we did in the Scotty McGloughlan days. I think a team needs a good core of very talented high character players. I dont know if it was Harbs fault or not, but when he took over, we really started bring in a lot of questions character players. We really where the Bengals west.

I hope so. We need his strong veteran presence to help with this regime change.

is Willis going to be asked to take a pay cut? its very possible..check out baalke's start contrast in answers about contract w/ VD and Willis....wouldn't be surprised if they are planning to approach willis on a salary cut
Q: Is Patrick's salary an issue or do you see him playing at that number?
Baalke: Well, you know, from years of visiting with me I'm not going to discuss salaries and cap numbers with the media. We feel real good about where Pat's at and we'll leave it at that.
Q: Do you envision Vernon on this team next season?
Baalke: Absolutely. Absolutely. I think if you look into those numbers, they're not as daunting as you may think.

Two totally different questions. Bother were strong endorsements.
