Or we have too many homers here who dont understand how this works. You had one guy trying to compare Kurt and T Davis, guys who won multiple SBs and MVPS, to Willis.
Love the guy, but hes not on their level.
Wow, this is news to me that Kurt Warner won "multiple SB's".
He had 2 all-pro nods and 4 pro bowls to Willis's 5x 1st team, 2x 2nd team all-pro and 7 pro bowl selections.

Before Pat, Takeo Spikes was your prototypical Mike. Not anymore.
This is purely about time played - which isn't even listed in the considerations. They're supposed to look at quality of player(has it in spades) and impact on the history of the game(again, set a new standard and type for the MIKE position).
If Gale Sayers is in while only playing from 65-71 and only played in 2 games in each of 70 and 71, how in the H-E double hockey sticks is Pat not in?
Kurt Warner only had 4 seasons with 12 or more starts - he's in.
Joe Guyon only played in 49 games but is in because he was the first native american
Dick Stanfel only played in 73 games and he's in as an offensive Guard
Doak Walker only played in 67 games and is in as a RB
Ernie Nevers only played 5 seasons
Pat played in 112 games.
So much this.
Ray Lewis is the one who changed the Mike position. Willis was on his way, but quit
Ray Lewis, to me, was the peak of the previous era LB's. When you talkba Mike Singletary, Brian Urlacher prototype, Ray was the peak of that, by a mile. Pat brought speed to thr LB position that had never been seen before and revolutionized the position. There's no Fred Warner or Luke Keuchly without Pat.
You. Can't. Be. Serious.
Career games
Wagner 135
Ray lewis 228
Luke Keuchly 118
Bowman 89(with SF)
Willis 112
Wagner: 9.2 tackles per game
Lewis :9 tackles per game
Keuchley; 9.2 tackles per game
Bowman(with SF) 7.5 tackles per game
Willis: 8.5 tackles per game, before Bowman arrived he was averaging 9.44 per game
Wagner 22.5 (.17 per game) sacks
Lewis 41.5 (.175/game) sacks
Keuchley 12.5 (.11/game) sacks
Bowman 12.5 (.14/game) sacks
Willis 20.5 (.183/game) sacks
Career forced fumbles:
Wagner 5
Ray lewis 19
Keuchley 7
Bowman 9
Willis 16
Passes defenced
Wagner 55(.42/game)
Lewis 96(.42/game)
Keuchly 56(.47/game)
Bowman 28(.31/game)
Willis 53(.47/game)
Tackles for loss
Wagner 65(.48/game)
Lewis 99(.43/game)
Keuchly 75(.63/game)
Bowman 43(.48/game)
Willis 60(.53/game)
Best single season tackles
Wagner 167
Lewis 184
Keuchly 164
Bowman 154
Willis 174
In total, 2nd highest single season tackles, 2nd best tackle/loss rate, tied for best pass defense rate, highest forced fumbles rate, best sack rate, 2nd best 4 season stretch in tackles(Wagner has 2 more tackles in his best 4 years)
Bowman started eating up lots of tackles in 2011 - which shouldn't be counted against Pat. He was just as much a force, if not more so than anyone on that list.
Pats is the ONLY one on that list that doesn't appear last in ANY category.

Comparing the duration in which they played is a fair comparison. Blaming a MLB cause he didn't win a super bowl is just dumb flat out dumb
Thats why i also said DPOY. JJ Watt hasnt won a SB, but he has multiple DPOYs, thats just as good when you're a defensive player. QB is judged based of SBs and MVPs. Defensive player dont have too much control over those two, but they do have control with DPOY awards.

K...SB and two MVPs . Point still stands.

Considering a MLB has never won an MVP, id say thats a pretty useless comparison.
Does this mean Lee Woodall was better than Willis? Woodall has a ring after all..

Calm down guys!! Patrick Willis WILL be in the HOF, just not this year. I bet majority or all of those guys y'all mentioned that made it in with a short career weren't first ballot HOFers. Willis would've been a first ballot HOFer if he played 10 or more years.

My problem is, that's shouldn't be part of the consideration - and shown that it's not part of the requirements. It's about individual performance and impact on the history of the game, can you talk about that position without that player being part of the conversation?

How many league MVP's have MLB's won? How many DPOY? Is Lamar Jackson now HOF worthy after 3 seasons because he won MVP?

Thats why i put in there DPOY for defensive players read lol
Literally wrote that defensive players arent incontrol when it comes to MVPs and SBs. That statement was made bc jonny said that Kurt and T Davis didnt play enough years either, but i said they have SBs and MVPs to their names.
Look if you guys want to believe that Willis should be in the HOF, fine. But thats just your opinion. Outside of niner fans, most dont feel that way.
Im not sayinf he should never get in, but it wont be anytime soon, he doesnt deserve that. This isnt the 80s were players retire in their late 20s. Longevity matters now. If you dont have the longevity, you better at least have a SB or MVP or DPOY, to go along with those all pro/pro bowl selections.

So you legitimately believe that Sam Mills is a more deserving HOF LB?
Fans of other NFL teams aren't going to have seen much of Willis. He played MLB in a west coast market. His impact wasn't seen on the stat sheet, so casual fans aren't going to know how good he was. If he was a pass rushing OLB he'd be more well known because most fans only look at sacks. If he had been on the Giants or Steelers he'd have been way more famous.
Niner fans have no excuse. They saw his career up close. No educated Niner fan should even have the opinion that "Willis just wasn't quite a HOF player". That's an embarrassingly bad take.

Some people cannot be pleased. If the Zone had somehow existed in the 80's, you would've seen "replace Montana" posts on the regular.

The fact is there are more voters in the eastern part of the country and they tend to vote for players they see the most. Niners games aren't always seen back there so players need to stand out even more than their counterparts on a team like Baltimore or NY. It's just the way it is and nothing we can do will change it. He was also a quiet, low key leader and didn't draw a lot of attention to himself.
