Hall of Fame LB, Patrick Willis

LB Zach Thomas also has 5 first team AP selections.....he's a finalist this year again for only the second time, and he's been out of the game for what? 15 years or so?

Again...the problem is that they play defense, and the HOF doesn't recognize defensive players anywhere near that of their offensive counterparts. Also consider their personalities.....Willis was a fairly quiet guy...not some 'look at me/all about me' persona. These reasonings are ridiculous, but they absolutely play a factor.

And yes....Willis should be in the Hall.

Below average in Air Yards.
Willis stomp all over the stubby midgets mills and thomas

80s football is much different than 2010+
Look at some of the QBs from this decade, a lot of them have better numbers than Joe, but it doesn't mean s**t.

And nobody would've cried replace Joe bc was winning SBs and MVPs... awful takes

WILLIS was an awesome player, but he just didn't make enough noise...

He made plenty noise but not long enough

That's ridiculous. Terrell Davis didn't make noise for all that long - he's in. Kurt Warner got benched, then was a backup twice before rising again. Pat was either best in the league or top 2 for 7 straight years.

TD - personally, I didn't think he was 1st Ballot... I'm not sure how he got in that soon..

Kurt - just an amazing story, but the fact that he took the Cards to the Super Bowl just got him that NOD.. I'd have to agree he deserves it..

Willis - defensive players just hard to get in unless you make THAT impact.. I mean, like Deion said, if you pause for a second after the name is mentioned, then deep down, you know the guy isn't a 1st BALLOT.. he's like our very own Bryant Young, he wasn't dominating enough to others eyes..
I love Warren Sapp for this...

Not about Willis, but about the Hall of Fame and the credentials needed to get in.

Td was the 3rd player at that time to have 2k in rushing, has multiple super bowl titles, has super bowl mvp and regular season mvp. His impact was clear as day.

Willis was good but I don't know if he was the best. It was a toss up between him and lewis or luke from carolina

Dont forget Sean Lee.. Dallas fans loved telling us how he was the best in the game.

Man. He had potential. But he wasn't the man that lewis or pat was. I was a low key fan of his.

Iirc, lee and bryant were from the same class. I had draft crushes on both players.

Kuechley wasn't elite until Willis was on his way out. His first year being All-Pro was Willis' final season being All-Pro. Ray Lewis was nearing the end of his years as the top guy as Willis was hitting his prime. From the 2007-2013 overall range, Patrick Willis was the best MLB in the game.

Its astonishing how many of you "Niner fans" don't remember how good he was. Its embarrassing.

If he had hobbled around and been crappy for 2 more years to get to that 10 year mark, nobody would be questioning whether he was qualified. It makes no sense.
Hof talent, just quit too soon. If only he could reach that 10 year mark...oh well.

Not about Willis, but about the Hall of Fame and the credentials needed to get in.

Facts. If I were a football coach, I'd show my running backs film of Frank Gore, almost over any other back. His career is a manual of "this is how you are supposed to do it." The guy has gained so many yards that weren't "there". Great in pass pro. Underrated catcher.

He does so many subtle things at an elite level. Pad level, body lean, effort, legs always moving, always falling forward. If you're a football fan you really appreciate his style.

He was just never a sexy player. Super country, wasnt a big media guy, very humble, no controversy, wasnt an "explosive" runner. It's just a shame that bumps like Arian Foster got much more media coverage and endorsement deals.

Gore is the most underappreciated skill position player I've seen at this level.
