Someday, you are going to need to sleep at night. That's going to be a sad day. For now, I'm pumped for another year of your analysis and discussions.

This is a great thread and resource for those wanting to discuss the nuts and bolts of football.

I remember when Singletary was HC we'd play Tampa 2 and Willis would sprint back. I guess Fangio won't use him like that?

Hell no, he's gonna be roving the hook to flat zone, claiming souls like he did back when TKO/Cyclops were the Ted/Jack backers. He's been chasing TEs ever since Bowman got the nod; now it's time to see him back in his element. Too many people forgot the havok Willis can wreak as a Mike backer!

This coverage tries to get the best of both worlds from Cover 2 Zone and Cover 3. (The 49ers do not call this coverage so I have to use an opponent's defense.)
Strengths:
- CBs can aggressively press WRs
- Strong in the flats
- 3 deep zone defenders
Weaknesses:
- Middle linebacker assigned to cover a deep zone
- Soft coverage of Hook zones
Wow. Kap's threat of running caused the coverage to break down. Him stepping up into the pocket works better than a pump fake!

I'm gonna be pissed if the football-challenged, stat monkey sportswriters who vote for the Hall find a way to keep him out because lesser LBs accumulate more impressive stats, when he's been fighting his way through guards on his way to every tackle he makes for the last three years! Luke Keuchly and our own beloved Navorro Bowman have never had to do that. Here's hoping that Williams and Willhoite soak some bodies up in the middle so Pat can run free and hit, just like old times.

Most, not all. Madden will not have Pattern Matching and Quarters coverage available. There simply is no AI that can do that.

Good stuff! Did you catch NFLN last nite? They had a ref on, explaining the rule changes.
I was surprised to learn that the rules are going to be enforced against WRs, if they cause contact more than one yard downfield (mesh? or rub?), just as much as they're gonna call contact on the DBs more than 5 yards downfield.
So our receivers will have to make sure they're not setting actual picks, they're just crossing downfield and making defenders avoid each other to cause separation.

That's a very judgement call type of penalty (offensive PI due to pick plays). They need to be consistent with that or teams can become frustrated. I agree it's going to be tricky for WRs to push the envelope regarding these pick plays this upcoming season. The only way to know is to try and see what happens, on a game to game basis.
