Crabs was a fine choice and he had a chance to make a play on the ball and probably should of caught it too. Kap blew the game, there's plenty of reasons to criticize his play but he hit Crabs right in the hands on the last play of the game. Crabs is got to come down with it.

We need to be able to establish the pass in order to establish the run. We'll win if Kap can do that. And if they keep 100 men in the box we need to be able to dink and dunk with the passing game. High percentage short throws to WR's in stride with the occasional deep ball.

guess we're screwed

No, that's actually what we've been doing through 2 games. A lot of short, timing routes to the WRs. It was very effective against Dallas, and effective against the Bears until we turned the ball over. The problem is not X's and O's. Kap has to make better decisions, and Roman still hasn't developed a good feel for the game either.

I'm telling you all, Kap's madly inlove of the idea of how sweet it would be if he can throw a "winning" TD pass to Crabtree..

His inability to read the secondary and find the "hot" receiver in a split second is his major weakness... He's a good passer when he throws to a target by design, and also know he can only throw about 85% of all type of what a starting QB can throw..

but his focus on getting the ball to Crabb "no matter what" is his downfall and it leads to he being doomed thus far..

Russell Wilson doesn't have the skill position weapons that Kap has, and yet, he makes those WRs better than what they are..

Right? I'd love to blame Roman as well but that simply wasnt the problem last Sunday. Execution, ie, Kaps pocket game was the problem. I'm concerned because we cant do what we did last season- rein in the passing game and rely on defense and a strong running game. We simply need better production from our passing game this season. Thus far the issues haven't been on Roman. I'd like to see Lloyd/Ellington on field with Boldin/Crabs so we can take advantage of one of their weaker players in the secondary. Johnson should also be a go to guy. He has a good track record against good corners. Gotta get better blocking for his routes to develop though...Kap shouldn't have a problem keeping an eye on Johnson...lol

Although frustrating that he passed up Boldin on that pass we shouldn't have been in that position to begin with but ya, I swear, if we go Crabtree to the endzone last play of the game one more time I'll vomit. It's like all other receivers just disappear. Boldin killed us in the endzone in the SB. Take note! And if Vance could catch better it would be nice to have a bigger/taller target. I'd take an Austin Seferian-Jenkins right about now, hell, even a Brandon Coleman! lol, a tall beast who can jump...just throw it up where no one else can get it. We lack that. It seems like, when we get to the redzone getting into the endzone is like pulling teeth. Did a good job early in the game though. What's the deal with our offense shutting down in the second half of both games thus far? Besides Kaps meltdown against Chicago are there wrong adjustments we're making?
I apologize in advance as I've avoided the internet and TV for the first half of this week.but for Jed and THL, was my assumption correct about the second half?

Did the bears dare us to find the 3 on 2 in coverage and sell out against plays they felt confident we were going to run. In my mind there was one play in particular where we showed trips to the bottom of the screen (on tv) and yet there was no audible, no nothing but running the play the bears were prepared for. Im doing my best not to be harsh on our OC (and I admit I may hold roman more accountable than most) but it seems to me like we are always playing into the opponents hand and our basic instinct is "try and stop us" but in todays NFL that is BS.
Damn, missed the game Sunday and just watched the replay......wtf???

Wasn't that bad until the 4th but geez us it got bad quick. I can't ever remember any team since the Seifert era looking so bad in such a short time span.

This has to just be an exception to the rule. The Jimmie Ward issue is definitely disturbing though, I don't understand why Cook wasn't in uniform.

We have to rebound this week and have a strong showing....
Kaep 2012 = Kaep 2014

Ive seen no improvement. He still doesn't see the field well. He still locks on and stares down his first read. He struggles to identify defenses pre snap.

All the physical tools are there but he is struggling with the mental side of the position. At this point he should be better at this. He should be a two read-checkdown QB ala Cam Newton

So just read the article about the third and six run play from the 7 yard line that went know where. Kap said it was bad execution yet he said there were two plays called and he stuck with the run play based on the defense. Well Kap you must need glasses because there were 11 men in the box and 1 CB just a yard out of the box that defensive set screams pass all the way. The tape don't lie Kap blew that call if it is true and it was his call.

Yes, he's been one of the best at setting up blocks for a long time now. Happily, Hyde appears to have this knack as well.

Kap was under pressure often in the 2nd half. On some plays it looked like he had time, but no one was open. On some plays the Oline failed to give him time to survey the field. On some plays he seemed to create the pressure himself. Here are all the 2nd half QB pressures that I counted.

Kap under pressure
#1
49ers: At the bottom of the screen (Kaps' right), VD will run a Curl to draw the attention of the underneath zone defender, which should open up the passing lane to Crabs on the deep slant.
CHI: Tampa2

Kap has his feet set and is looking to his right. The CB on Crabs has outside leverage and Crabs is about to break inside. VD has his defender tied up. Is there an anticipation throw to make here to Crabs?

It's a tight window between when Crabs makes his break and when Kap feels the pressure in his face. Still, I feel Kap could have hung in there on this play and made the connection to Crabs. Another option would have been Gore on the checkdown since Tampa2 exposes the short middle area that the MLB vacates. Kap scrambles for +9.

Kap under pressure
#2
49ers: Curl (outside WR) with a wheel route (slot WR) to both sides of the formation.
CHI: rush 5, cover3 shell
This is the play Tillman ripped his triceps

Kap completes his dropback and should know Crabs (red) is about to break on his Curl. The CB on Crabs is bailing. The ball has to come out now.

A split second later, Kap decides to escape the pocket.

Kap almost stepped into the oncoming rush.
