No.
According to this forum, everyone must go: Willis, Harbaugh, Baalke, Roman, Kaep and Jed.
So Fangio must also go. Clean sweep. Blow it up.

Are we allowed to keep Vic Fangio?

it's just he'll feel less secure staying as a DC, then a new HC comes along... they may not be on the same page..
I think I'll wipe after a dump or maybe not... WHICH IS IT?!!!

Fangio is under contract with the 49ers, whether Harbaugh goes or stays is irrelevant. The only ways he can leave are to take a head coaching position with another team or resign and go back to college.

I'd love to keep our defensive coordinators and just hire an offensive minded coach. Or will Vic follow Harbaugh?
Why is everybody on fangio jock, his defense never make key stops! Don't believe the hype in my public enemy voice! The guy is average at best! Superior talent is what has made him look as descent as he has looked at times. Remember the SB! His defense was terrible!

Fangio has never struck me as a guy who wants to be a HC. To that end unless he is offered a HC position the 49ers can prevent him from working anywhere else in the NFL next season, he is under contract. Would the team release him if he asked them to do so? I don't know but I would hate to lose him, not so much if we replaced him with Wade Phillips who I have a ton of respect for as a DC and feel is an extremely underrated DC. His defenses are dominant. Never had a D ranked worse than 5th.
I would be happy with Gase and Phillips. Try to Keep Tomsula, Leavitt and Rathman.

I don't know what kind of offensive input Fangio would have. He definitely tough minded and with the team as it is now maybe too much change would alter whatever chemistry is left. His drawback is that he's never been an NFL coach, which will be one of the determining factors in the selection process.

to hire an unknown/New for HC is a slap in the face when Fangio can run the show himself
So you don't know eitherway, but you are admitting that there is precedent for this, right?
also what about monte kiffin being overlooked by tampa as they traded a boat load for gruden?
Kiffin and Lebeau are in no way in the same situation or even age range as fangio

You can claim exclusions as much as you like, but there's a lot of precedence for this. Guys get passed up all the time, just being on a staff doesn't entitle you to a promotion when the head coach leaves just because you've had some success on the staff and if guys can't deal with that, they are probably in the wrong line of work. I don't think that is the case with Fangio though, he's been around long enough in the NFL to know when he has a good thing going on.

its does matter..as Fangio is young enough to take a shot at being a HC..
I doubt he is set in his ways like an old dog and not want to attempt to cash in the HC money since he has some HC experience

kiffin was like 61 in 2002 when he was glossed over in tampa, hell the 49ers 3 years later in 2005 had interest in interviewing him before nolan was hired and may have even interviewed. fangio is currently 56. you're splitting some serious hairs here to protect your agenda you've got. didnt know it was a massive difference between mid to late 50's and early 60's

Fangio is 56, Kiffin was like 60......not a massive difference, you're kinda sorta grasping for straws here.

grasping ?
you believe he doesnt want to be a HC, but there is no real reason to stay a DC when his new boss doesn't have any HC experience..even Fangio served as a HC assistant

The point is regardless of who the eventual head coach is, his role is defined. If he can't deal with that, then resign and go work in college.
