Maybe he will assist with drafting the Ford replacement as well

We run a base 4-3 defense with Wide 9 and Cover 3 principles, while Fangio runs a 3-4.
Agree. Fangio is a 3-4 guy, but 3-4 and 4-3 aren't so different that Fangio can't adjust. I just like the fact that he can step in as DC if Demeco leaves and i don't think he's wanting to be Head Coach again for a while after his Bronco stint. That might help stability on the defensive coaching side for a couple of years. I personally like the Wide 9 now, and I think, to a certain extent Fangio has been moving in that direction philosophically already.
If he can make the transition to 4-3, out run defense would be absolutely insane with our LB and Dline. It's arguably better than the Harbaugh years and that's saying a lot.
I think Fangio can make the adjustment. The Wide 9, looking at it in another way, is basically Fangio's nickel defense with 4 DLine pass rushers. Terrible against the run, unless you have the scheme to counter runs up the middle (and Fangio will have Kocurek's help on that), but it's a very strong pass defense. Specially if you have the defensive backs to man up on the opposing WR's.

Fangio would bring the 3-4 for sure. He isn't changing now and I am not sure he would even be effective with it of he did.

Quite a difference in ideas when comparing what Kocurek wants his defensive front to do (one gap) and what Fangio wants his DL to do (1.5 gap). I don't think doing both while switching back and forth is optimal.
My guess is that the advice Fangio provides has to do mainly with game planning for the opponent, and not so much implementing Fangio's core concepts into the 49ers.

The other concern I have with Fangio as a future possibility of a DC is that he rarely rotates his d-line. I remember Justin Smith and Aldon Smith were completely gassed in the playoffs.
We gotta keep Bosa and all our guys fresh.

The 49ers play the AFC West next season. That's where Fangio just came from. I think he's on board to help scout the opponent and provide input on game plan.

Just something for him to do while swimming in that Broncos $$$ that is still being paid to him.
Anyone know if Vic has a house in the area?

He's getting paid like a head coach from his remaining contract with DEN. He probably wants to take a year off from the 16 hour work days and just "chill" in an advisory role. He knows Kyle respects him from Kyle's desire in the past to have Fangio be his DC. Not a bad gig for Fangio. Get paid well, stay involved in a limited role. If he wants to get back into a DC or HC role, he's up to date with the league in 2023.

I don't think so. His ability to specifically game plan for opponents vs. all gas, no brakes and just doing what we do could be very helpful for Ryans. In addition, he could be huge with helping the secondary in pattern match schemes. He always got the most of the least talent too and always had a secondary pipeline ready to go. His experience would be invaluable. 3-4, 4-3 and W9 isn't a crutch.
That donatell? Yea defend with a plan that holds groundl

It sucks to be fired, but agreed. Fangio has a lot of options open to him. He's pretty well-respected throughout the league and I feel the general feeling is that his only major failure as Head Coach was that he didn't have a QB... which in my eyes, is an indictment of Denver's front office for failing to find a QB.

I don't think it's really a big difference between the Wide 9 and Fangio's 3-4 under. The *under* part with the DT in 3 tech, and the rush De/LB out wide, is simply mirrored on the other side and whalla you got the Wide 9.

Just saw a post by Schefter saying he's taking the year off.
