Taking a year off from being a defensive coordinator. Said nothing about consulting which is far less time intensive. Remember that whole year that Chris Palmer was on the coaching staff and pretty much no one knew about it until the season was over. Or when Shanahan first brought Foerster over.

It's still possible that he might opt to be involved in a lesser capacity while continuing to collect that Denver cash.

If Demeco gets a HC gig after next season then we bring back Fangio. Love it!

Like the optimism. Can't see it happening but hope he helps in some way.

My guess is that the advice Fangio provides has to do mainly with game planning for the opponent, and not so much implementing Fangio's core concepts into the 49ers.

If the Seattle coaching tree can adapt their defense then Fangio certainly can. No one was less creative and more rigid than those guys (Quinn, Saleh, Pete etc)

Does that include consultant roles?
Fangios days in SF are over.

If we can keep Demeco until the end of the 2023 season (unlikely I know), there is a good chance that the Jets fire Saleh as he isn't going to finish above the Bills nor the Patriots as long as a Belichick is around. Not to mention, the Dolphins games will be a challenge since McDaniel and Saleh know each other very well.

Doesn't Vic run a 3-4? Our D is one that is able to generate pressure when only rushing 4, which was how he likes to roll, but would he be as good doing that with a 4-3 defense? I don't see Bosa as an OLB.
Fangio style doesn't work for our personnel. Bosa in particular. Let it go y'all, he wasn't that good back in the Harbaugh days. Beast mode ran all over his defenses lol.

I think he's a viable option, but for me personally, I think the current Defensive Back coaches on the team already, are more viable options as future 49er DCs and more of a preference for me. Fangio doesn't like to play rookies, and his defensive schemes are pretty complicated for my taste. The Seifert/Carroll defense with the Wide 9 Hybrid is a much more simple plug and play defense and in the age of the salary cap, that (I think) is a tremendous advantage. Ebukam, Willis and Key were able to be productive within one season of being in the current defensive scheme. Ambry, Huf, and Lenoir were key contributors during their rookie year to get to the NFC CG. I think the 49er defensive coaching staff is pretty set for at least 2022, and beyond that - they will have additional options next year as new defensive coaching talent appears in the playoffs. Fangio's defense is too *linebacker-centric* for my taste and I think is a step behind the times - specifically when the NFL is such a pass happy league. I'd rather have a defense scheme centered around the Defensive Line and defensive backs - in this day and age.

Why the need to rewrite history or downplay someone's legitimate hard work... just to push an opinion?

Dude had our defense still playing at a high level in 2014 with all those injuries he faced. Put the right pieces in the right places and coached.

Where as on offense after an injury or two....Harbs and Roman were stubborn with the oline and the scheme, when it was obvious we had oline issues half way through the season.

If you go to Bears message boards (and I'm sure soon the Bronco fans will do similar), their fans still talk about his defense and how to still keep it looking similar.

Aaaaaand there goes your credibility lol
Is it possible with harbaugh going back to michigan and fangio sitting out but advising us that there might be something brewing in the bay for a return? Does this almost have that feeling? When is Shanahans contract up?
