Hopefully Greg Jackson has learned a few things from Donatell. He's supposedly well regarded as an assistant also.

Yeah, he's been the 2nd in command for what 3-4 years now behind Donatell so no reason to believe he wouldn't take over as secondary coach if Donatell became DC. And yeah I'd rather have Donatell as DC since he has experience than Tomsula. Tomsula is a great motivator but doesn't know much about x's and o's (a better version of singletary you could say).

And I'm pretty conflicted with Shanahan and Holmgren. I'm surprised with how many people want them but it makes sense with our fanbases' refusal to stop living in the past. I would be interested to see what they can do but at the same time I really think they are way past their prime and they are not long term solutions.

Ok here is a list of coaches to take 2 teams to superbowls (of the 6 only 2 won)
Don Shula, Dick Vermeil, John Fox, Mike Holmgren, Dan Reeves, Bill Parcells

#49ers CEO Jed York told one source that Mike Shanahan was "high" on his list of candidates. FWIW.

Be careful of leaks just like these. They are usually done for a specific reason. Considering how close knit of a process this is, nothing is being leaked that they dont want leaked.

Lol yeah because our Front office is so great at keeping things behind closed doors and not letting information leak out to the media. I'm sure we only let information leak out that we want leaked. That sure worked well for us throughout the whole 2014 season.

Who do you think the long term solution is?

That is exactly right.

I would say the best shot would be Gase but I can't guarantee anything. I think a lot of guys are toss ups and very similar. Nobody stands out at me as a I MUST HAVE HIM!!!! I'm not saying Shanahan and Holmgren won't work out and I can see why people want them but again I just think they are way past their prime and people mostly want them because of their 49er days in the 90s.

And If I had to choose between the former 9er coaches who could be around long term I'd take Kubiak over Shanahan and Holmgren. I think he could bring in the zone blocking scheme which could do wonders for the run game. Usually you can throw in any decent athletic lineman or any rb and run for 1k. Means you have to spend less on OL and RBs because you can keep going with the next man up.

Side note in MLB, NFL and the NBA the hot trend is no the retread coaches it's the young up and comers, the bright minds, usually former players that are hot right now.

Why!??!?!!?! His offenses did nothing for the Texans.

4 top 10 offenses while he was coaching there. 3 Top 10 rushing offenses, 3 Top 10 Passing Offenses.

Yeah and he took a bottom ten (Yds & Scoring) Baltimore team and made them #12 in Yds and #8 in scoring.

Flacco is having one of his best years in QB rating & QBR... Kubiak has a great track record with offense...

Still, there's no way I take Kubiak over Shanahan.

Yeah I prefer Shanahan too. He brought Kubiak to the 49ers in 94 and Kubiak was the right hand man in Denver from 95 until 2005. It's like Walsh/Holmgren, Walsh/Wyche, Walsh/Hackett.... Master/student.... but Kubiak was with Shanahan for a decade...
so maybe hes the one with the playbook, not shanny. and hes gonna have better connections like someone else said, shanny's friends are all probably old as hell or retired/not interested. 49ers fans tend to think that older is better but i would argue that kubiak has been better than shanny as a head man. we all know about elway but shanahan failed miserably in washington and kubiak took an expansion team and built them into an offensive powerhouse. made shaub a beast for a few years, always had a badass run game, defense hasnt been bad as well. i think hes a great coach and hes my favorite as far as the ones were supposedly linked to

Not so much a defense, that was his biggest problem for much of his time there but his offenses were always good and he continued the Shanahan tradition of finding a late round/undrafted guy who ended up being a very good RB. His offenses were always top notch and balanced, good running game, good passing game, if he were to leave Fangio alone and let him handle the defense, he could pretty well with the 49ers as he's a great to fix two of the team's biggest weaknesses, pass blocking and playcall execution.

Dammit I usually don't like guys fired for poor performance by a previous team, but I'm warming up to Kubiac.

How do you know? For all we know the next coach becomes better than harbaugh and actually wins the super bowl.

You wont find a better coach this off season then Kubiak.

and were not a rebuild, the players are all there. we just need someone with any kind of idea on how to use our offense to its full potential. having roman as an OC was like giving the keys to a lambo to a 90 year old lady
