Not so much a defense, that was his biggest problem for much of his time there but his offenses were always good and he continued the Shanahan tradition of finding a late round/undrafted guy who ended up being a very good RB. His offenses were always top notch and balanced, good running game, good passing game, if he were to leave Fangio alone and let him handle the defense, he could pretty well with the 49ers as he's a great to fix two of the team's biggest weaknesses, pass blocking and playcall execution.

Dammit I usually don't like guys fired for poor performance by a previous team, but I'm warming up to Kubiac.

You wont find a better coach this off season then Kubiak.

If Kubiak was Shanny's OC I'd agree.
I will say I'm glad we are leaving no stone unturned. We could have got our minority in here, got the guy we had as the favorite and moved on. Some teams do it that way. I'm glad we are looking at everyone.. young, old, in house, outsiders, retread, oc's and dc's. If they based it off interviews which we should have 10+ then we will know the guy who got the job gave a hell of an interview. Just have to hope they can walk the walk and not just talk the talk.

Since Elway has retired Shannahan has ONE playoff win in 13 seasons.
I would be very happy with Kubiak or Shannahan, and Shannahan is growing more on me - I'd originally had a shining for Gase but I think he is just a little too young and unseasoned just now.

I would love to see:

HC: Shannahan or Kubiak
OC: Trestman
DC: Fangio

I don't think Trestman is going to get another HC gig this season after Chicago so his best bet is as an OC. I think he could be groomed behind Shannahan or Kubiak and as they come from the Walsh school of WO we'd see a lot of continuity with an eventual succession plan, and I think Trestman is the kind of coach that would work wonders with Kap - you can't pin the Cutler stuff on Trestman, that guy has been a self-serving basket case who's half-assed it under every coach.

I would have really high hopes on a HC/OC combo like the above and the improvements they would make to Kap's game. The whole desire for " a teacher" i think comes down to a lack of skills and situational football coaching from Harbaugh and the staff we've had - no adjustmants, no working on red zone offense and a general philosophy of go out there and bang your head against the wall until it crumbles.
Kubiak over all those guys.

and were not a rebuild, the players are all there. we just need someone with any kind of idea on how to use our offense to its full potential. having roman as an OC was like giving the keys to a lambo to a 90 year old lady

To me its all about the DL and OL. Betrer ability to stop the run plus better pass blocking would make a huge difference. Weve all seen what Kaepernick can perform like when given time to throw.

He is a younger better version of Shanahan

And the Texans were never considered serious playoff threats. Their offenses were from mediocre to pedestrian.

Not likely to stay if he doesn't get the HC job.
maybe we bring in Shanahan as a consultant? like we did with Mangini.

I think his bark is worse than his bite. He's also under contract for another year.

4 top 10 offenses & 3 top 5 offenses in Houston. So to you a top 5/10 offense is mediocre? Got ya...
HC: Vic Fangio
DC: Ed Donatel
OC: Scott Frost

Where is he gonna go? He is under contract if he dont get a head coaching offer he cant lateral as a dc. He can quit and set at home or coach college until his contract expires.
