Since Elway has retired Shannahan has ONE playoff win in 13 seasons.

And the Texans were never considered serious playoff threats. Their offenses were from mediocre to pedestrian.
the texans were favorites to win everything a few years in a row not too long ago. u have to remember this was an expansion team that had to build from the ground up and shaub was their qb. that said, shaub still put up insane numbers with kubiak in charge and kapernick is WAYYY more gifted than he is. if we get kubiak and he installs his offense and blocking scheme to give kap some time to throw the ball, he will be deadly. also look at how receivers have thrived in his offenses. andre, owen daniels, i forget a couple of the other dudes theyve had but theyve had some receivers kick serious ass in that offense so thats a huge improvement over our offense where its a celebration everytime someone gets over 50 yards for the game
I think it's good that Kubiak will get a look from us. He's my preferred option with Mike Shanahan as plan b. If we can't get either and decide to go with a defensive coach, I'd say just promote Fangio and make a run at Marc Trestman for OC.

I know some people here aren't crazy about him but I think that schematically he was great in Chicago. Unfortunately for him (just like Lovie Smith before), he couldn't make Jay Cutler unsuck which led to his dismissal.

So strange that the Bears FO seems so reluctant to accept that Cutler is garbage but hey.....more power to them.

I keep telling dudes. Jim was the perfect hire at the time. We had a roster perfectly built after some TB maneuvering to implement his power run O smashmouth system. The league was pass oriented and built to stop the passers. It was about finesse. Even PIT was passing and all about Big Ben. He caught the NFL off guard and by midseason 2011 SEA took the ball away from T Jack and gave it to Lynch as they deduced to keep up with us they had to run and stop the run. The NFL has caught up to us now in a sense. Not talent wise but as far as scheme we've been figured out to and adjusted to. But I will argue no other HC would've hit the NFL off that lockout like Jim did. Should've could've won consecutive Super Bowl trophies

4 top 10 offenses & 3 top 5 offenses in Houston. So to you a top 5/10 offense is mediocre? Got ya...

Right and pair that offense with the top 5 niner D and its superbowl bound!

f**ked would be bringing back one of the worst OCs in the league, all those clowns on the offensive coaching staff, and their s**t offense.

If the new coach knows his stuff, hires the right people, installs a modern offense w/ WCO principles, and gets out of Fangio's way, I'm not nearly as doom and gloom about our future as you my friend.

Not likely to stay if he doesn't get the HC job.

Where is he gonna go? He is under contract if he dont get a head coaching offer he cant lateral as a dc. He can quit and set at home or coach college until his contract expires.

Now I love both kubiak and shanahan, kubiak offenses where tremendous, but so was shanny's post elway. From 1999-2008, Mike had 6 top 10 offenses and 5 of those where top 5. He also had a 91-69 record in those ten season with out the benefit of a top level qb. Also it should be noted that his last two seasons at Washington had a number 9 rated attack and a number 5 ranked offense.

He interviewed at Washington. If he couldn't get out of his contract I'm sure he wouldn't have wasted his time.

Edit: Going to interview.

I see Tomsula is getting some love round and about.
what kind of offense does Trestman run?
Very intrigued by the best of both worlds... Kubiak HC (brings in zone blocking, handles OL, handles running game), Trestman as OC is better with the passing game. Keep the D staff.

Fangio didn't but Donatell did. The FO denied the 'Skins request to interview Fangio.

Shanahan has zero playoff wins without Kubiak. Kubiak has 2 playoff wins without Shanahan.

Denied the opportinity to interview by SF.
I understand the Niners had a 4 1/2 hr interview with Mike Shanahan...Jed said he wanted to hire a head coach who was a teacher...that pretty well describes MS. IF he was selected to be the next head coach, I wonder if he'd want to bring his son, Kyle in to be OC. I think that coaching tandem could be an interesting combination that might be able to resurrect our offense.
