Holmgren is about to turn 67, has been out of football for awhile. A lot of the assistants he depended on throughout the years are out of football now or have one foot out the door. As good of a coach as he was, at this point I think its better to find a more long term solution.

Which is why Kubiak makes the most sense out of Shanahan, Holmgren, and Kubiak.

Can someone explain to me what Mike Shanahan has accomplished without a hall of fame qb in John Elway and Steve young?

He ruined RG3's knee.

Anyone remember when Seifert was fired... Was there people calling into KNBR wanting Walsh to be rehired?

Correct. I know he's not the sexiest name out there but I think he makes the most sense for us right now. York said he wants a teacher for Kap and the offense overall (obviously) needs direction.

Speaking to that, who's better qualified than Kubiak?

He did not say teacher for Kap...he said teacher in general. Someone who can teach players and even teach coaches.

He didn't but that's what I took it to mean. Our defense really doesn't need teachers because we already have well respected vets and a great coaching staff.

Well, maybe Aldon does but aside from him we're ok....

I think we're gonna have to do away with that pretty soon.
I think either Shanahan or Kubiak should be the hire, depending upon their interview, references, who still has the fire, who they will bring with them, etc. Of course they would have to agree to keep the current defensive staff (or hire a better staff).
Either Kubiak or Shanahan would be major offensive upgrades.

The 2005 Broncos went 13-3 with Kubiak as the OC.
As soon as Kubiak left Denver, the Broncos fell apart and they were never good again for the next 3 years with Shanahan as HC. It seems like Kubiak was most responsible for the Broncos success.

The Texans were 2-14 in 2005 before Kubiak arrived and had poor talent level. Despite mediocre to poor talent, Kubiak did pretty well with Texans.

Mike was a good coach but he been living off those Superbowl wins for a long time.

I think he's another example of good head coach, bad GM.

This exactly right. He thought he could coach up any qb (which he did quite a bit), and that led to not getting that top notch guy. Aside from the 6-10 season in 1999, he was usually any where from 8-8 to a peak of 13-3 until the final year in Denver. Imagine if he bottomed out in one of those year and was able to land a rivers, Eli or Big Ben. Facts are he got pretty good production out of griese, Plummer and cutler. You could argue none of those guys played as good with out Mike as coach.

Kubiak should be the hire. Shanahan #2.
Why isn't Kubiak in the poll?

Only candidates that the 49ers have interviewed or are planning on interviewing......minus Tomsula who got little support in a previous poll. It was reported today that the 49ers are interested in Kubiak but he won't interview with anyone until the Ravens are out of the playoffs.

Kubiak and Trestman are the way forward as HC and OC for me having thought some more. Shannahan is maybe not as driven as he was and I don't like the possibility of seeing his son here!

Cutler was picked 11th (Roethlisberger was picked 11th in 2004) and Shanahan still loves him. That was a Shanahan pick. He got his QB and went 24-24 with him.
