All this talk about Kubiak and Gase. I love what Haley has done for the Steelers. He should at least get an interview.

I think he's nearly as much of a red-a$$ lunatic as Harbaugh.

At least Harbaugh was loved by the players. I don't even think Haley had that. He's just an a*****e. Good coordinator though, just don't count on him to lead a team.

Looks like the Shannahan father/son move i speculated about prior to the season ending is gaining some momentum.

I also wouldn't be upset with Kubiak.

Everyone else whos names are being thrown about wouldnt really get me excited. Of all the other names, i would probably prefer the in house hire of Vic Fangio.

If Cleveland releases Kyle Shanahan why in the world would we want him as our OC??????? If they want him out that means he is a problem.

Am I missing something....Kyle didn't get fired in CLE, right? I thought they were really happy with him.

No he seems to be fine in Cleveland. But people keep saying if Mike Shanahan gets the 49ers job Kyle would be the OC. Well the only way he would be is if Cleveland lets him go and the only way they do that is it he is a problem.

Here what i could see happening, and i mentioned it months back. Kyle as HC, Mike in an assistant HC role. People say it will never happen, but i personally could see something like that happening. Mike gets all the input he wants, but doesn't really have to carry the stess as HC. Kyle gets the opportunity to Grow as the HC and still has experience at his side with his father.

If your Kyle do you really want daddy watching over everything you do?

How would daddy be watching over everything he does? He would be the assistant HC. Lots of teams have them. It would be Kyles team, and Mike would be his close advisor. If i was getting my first HC position, and my Father, who had won superbowls and was still capable of coaching wanted to come on board to assist me in being successful, i would have no issues with that. You guys act as if these guys have never coached together.

Not a fan of the dynamic of having the superbowl winning dad, as an assistant for the young HC. Who has the credibility in the locker room? Whose team is it?

Just do not like that dynamic at all.

Plus Kyle could get Mike's advice without him being on the staff.

Just avoid this scenario, which is very very unlikely, and higher Kubiak.

Especially after Dad interviewed for the position. Not like Mike has been retired for 10 years and has no interest in being a HC.

I dont claim to know how it would work/not work. I just know that Kyle seems to be a very capable coach on the rise. As of right now, the perception is that he is too young still being 34. I do know that Kyle fits the description of what the FO is looking for. He is indeed a teacher or men, but he simply doesnt have the mileage yet. BUT imo he has a much larger upside than a guy like Mcdaniels/Gage simply because of his pedigree, and his success with less than stellar QB's. Mcdaniels has Brady. Gage has Manning. Shannahan had Shaub, RG3, Hoyer, and Manziel.

As i mentioned months ago, i would personally be fine with bringing in Kyle without Mike, but not the other way around. I dont think Mike is a long term solution our team is looking for. I have always liked Mike, but i just dont think this is the right time. If it came down to Mike alone vs Kubiak then i likely lean towards Kubiak. However, if we could somehow work out the logistics of bringing in both father and son Shanahan, then i would lean that direction.

He's only 53 y/o. He should be OK for a few years.

I get what you are saying. Im not completely against the Shanahan idea, and actually prefer shanahan to any of the DC's being discussed.

I like the idea of the WCO and the zone blocking scheme. I just think its fits our players' strengths so well.

Correct. I know he's not the sexiest name out there but I think he makes the most sense for us right now. York said he wants a teacher for Kap and the offense overall (obviously) needs direction.

Speaking to that, who's better qualified than Kubiak?

He did not say teacher for Kap...he said teacher in general. Someone who can teach players and even teach coaches.

He didn't but that's what I took it to mean. Our defense really doesn't need teachers because we already have well respected vets and a great coaching staff.

Well, maybe Aldon does but aside from him we're ok....

No guarantees we keep some or all of our current defensive staff. If we lose some or all, and while I'd rather we didn't, then so be it. That does not guarantee us a defense that regresses. Pretty sure he is looking to find the best candidate regardless of whether he keeps Vic & co. instead of the best candidate who vows to keep them. And I think he would want a coach who can teach all 53 players on the roster not someone who is limited.

Which is unfortunate, but Kubiak didn't have a stroke so I guess he'll be ok for awhile at least.

I'm sure that he is getting treatment for that now, blood thinners, chelation, etc
Of course they would protect themselves from this in his contract and check with his doctor
