The 49ers 2015 Coaching Search Thread(All Rumors and News Here)

I dont see why we would hire from within. I think Fangio and Tomsula are both back regardless. Clearly we need an offensive mind to help get our offense going. The issue was Roman, and they were willing to fire Harbaugh to get him out. They arent going to promote a guy who cant help Kap and the offense.

If we dont hire an offensive HC were retarded. Our problems have been poor red zone offense and poor clock management. The whole point of firing Harbaugh and Roman was to revamp the offensive side of the ball.

We would have to promote someones QB coach to be our OC under Fangio...

All signs point to Gase or McDaniels IMO. Not saying thats the right call, but it aligns with what theyre trying to do.

So you think we need to hire the best candidate with a specific background ? As opposed to the best candidate regardless of background ?

And you do not need to hire someones QB coach to fill our OC position if the new HC has a defensive background. The new OC could be on another staff as a QB or WR's coach, or perhaps he is working in college or is a free agent at this time. A few candidates :

Rick Dennison was an OC under Shanny in Denver, Kubiak in Houston and is the QB coach in Baltimore right now.

Dirk Koetter, Marc Trestman and Marty Mornhinweg are all looking for work.

Rob Chudzinski currently holds a special assistant title in Indy and could potentially be poached if Pep does not get a HC'ing gig.

Scott Linehan is working a 1 year deal in Dallas. Might be hard to poach him as he could very well resign with Big Jerry's wallet but their is a window.

Don't agree. He had many years in Houston where the QB's performed well and the offense was consistently ranked in the top half of the league, and many years in the Top 10. He had Matt Schaub playing very well, but the player fell apart, not the coach. All you need to do is look at what Kubiak is doing right now, and what Schaub is doing. Not hard to pinpoint what went wrong in Houston last year.
what's so special about the Ravens' offense?
I wouldn't mind Mike Shanahan. Hyde would be a 1500-1700 yard back in his system. I think we have the o lineman to pull it off without iupati.
I think what these playoffs are demonstrating is the importance of a professional offensive philosophy, game planning and an OC who can utilize personnel properly and make in-game adjustments.

If you were to tell a new-hire HC/OC last off season this is who you get to start with, they'd s**t their pants: Staley, Iupati, Kilgore, Boone, Davis, Gore, Hyde, Hunter, Miller, VD, Crabtree, Johnson, Boldin, Lloyd, Patton, and Ellington with CK.

It wasn't personnel. Get the right team of offensive coaches in here stat!
Is anyone else feeling like no one on this list is really the answer? Also .. i kinda thought that York and Balkee already had a guy in mind when they made this move. now i'm starting to think they are just doing this by the seat of their pants.

Does anyone remember how many other guys and who we interviewed before we went with Harbs?

There weren't any other reported at the time, but we are now finding out that Baalke approached at least 2 others before Harbaugh. One being Bill Parcels, forget who the other was.

Last time it was more about who the GM was going to be and if that guy could land Harbaugh. Hell I wanted Lombardi just because I felt he was more likely to get Harbaugh. Glad im not the owner.

It's remarkable how many we've already interviewed to date. During the Harbaugh search people were turning us down for interviews. Not any more!

The 49ers are really in a lose-lose PR situation until they make the hire. Currently they've cast a wide interview net which has fans and columnists second guessing their methodology and "plan". If they were simply sitting back and waiting for a guy they've got targeted to become available to interview, I have no doubt that they'd still be severely criticized for not having a plan.

I suspect about half of these interviews are legit candidates they actually have an open mind about hiring and the other half they're simply gathering intelligence for future reference . . . for instance which position coaches and coordinators they might have a high opinion of.

They said 7 to 10 days worth of interviews not necessarily 7 to 10 days to hire someone.
Today is that big mouth toe sucking fat f**k porker's interview.

Yeah funny what a super bowl appearance along with 3 NFL championship game appearances can do. Lol. But I think the candidates know the roster is talented. For the right coach it could be an instant turnaround to the playoffs. I that is what makes it very attractive.
