Yeah funny what a super bowl appearance along with 3 NFL championship game appearances can do. Lol. But I think the candidates know the roster is talented. For the right coach it could be an instant turnaround to the playoffs. I that is what makes it very attractive.

That and our GM was new, lots of uncertainty, etc. Since then the FO has made a ton of connections and continue to make more during this interview process. Not one interview has been turned down. Everyone knows how talented this team already is. Just need to put the offense together. Great gig for a new HC!

If you were to tell a new-hire HC/OC last off season this is who you get to start with, they'd s**t their pants: Staley, Iupati, Kilgore, Boone, Davis, Gore, Hyde, Hunter, Miller, VD, Crabtree, Johnson, Boldin, Lloyd, Patton, and Ellington with CK.

It wasn't personnel. Get the right team of offensive coaches in here stat!

Been saying this sh!t for a long time. . .

It also doesn't hurt to have a top 5 defense and an underachieving offense to boot.

When's the last time you've ever been genuinely impressed with this team/staff in any of the following the facets you mentioned (offensively)? And I mean for a full game, all four quarters, not just being aggressive in a quarter or two, then maybe kicking a field goal for the rest of the game? Cuz it's been far too long IMO.

I like Harbaugh but if it took firing him to bring in a proper OC and offensive coaching staff, well then so be it. Rathman is the only offensive coach that I'd 100% bring back. That's it LOL.

Is anyone else feeling like no one on this list is really the answer? Also .. i kinda thought that York and Balkee already had a guy in mind when they made this move. now i'm starting to think they are just doing this by the seat of their pants.

Does anyone remember how many other guys and who we interviewed before we went with Harbs?

There weren't any other reported at the time, but we are now finding out that Baalke approached at least 2 others before Harbaugh. One being Bill Parcels, forget who the other was.

Last time it was more about who the GM was going to be and if that guy could land Harbaugh. Hell I wanted Lombardi just because I felt he was more likely to get Harbaugh. Glad im not the owner.

I forgot about Lombardi... I remember i wanted him to because of Harbaugh. Good call, i wonder how different things would be had we went Lombardi and still got Harbaugh. Roster would definitely be different, but i bet Harbaugh would still be hear because it would have shifted the FO power to the Harbaugh side of the house.

Bingo. And to have all of the key players locked up already unlike Seattle.

I look at Lombardi and Bruce Allen the same way. Guys that are utterly inept but they are smooth talkers on the golf course and they are nice puppets for head coaches so they keep getting work.

Jed wanted Harbaugh gone. So we would be in the Jets and Bears situations interviewing GM and Coaching candidates.

Jason LaCanfora on The NFL Today:

Mike Shanahan covets the Bears job where he can be reunited with Cutler

Rex Ryan covets the Falcons job

Atlanta could get the first crack at interviewing Todd Bowles (someone made a prediction he'd wind up there)

Even though Josh McDaniels is interviewing, no guarantee he'd accept if offered a job, he HIGHLY values what he has in NE (my take, he's scared)

Boomer Esiason - "Everyone wants the Falcons job because of Matt Ryan, stop OVERRATING the 49ers roster NCommand! (not srs)"

This is when the stat nerds are looking too deeply at broad based statistics and missing the forest through the trees. Good coaches can and do make a difference, one has to look no further than the NFC West to see that. Bad coaches, which usually comprise about half or more of new coaches hired, not so much and if a franchise is dysfunctional and has a terrible GM running things they'll perpetually struggle regardless of who the coach might be.
