Less inclined to trust Dalton down the stretch

Well yeah, Dalton was kind of the "if" in that question. Anything is possible when it comes to the playoffs.

Bears/Cutler - LMFAO

Falcons/Crap defense - LMFAO

Bills/QB Situation - LMFAO

Raiders/rebuilding team - LMFAO

Jets/QB Situation - LMFAO

49ers - QB check, RB check, WR's check, O-line well maybe 1 or 2 players will be needed otherwise all good no real problem, TE check, D-line could be a small problem but nothing Aldon Smith, Navaro Bowman and Patrick Willis can't help but counter that. Keep Vic Fangio at DC and you're set.

Agree from a personnel standpoint but I am really starting to believe the SF job is not as attractive because of what Jed and Trent did with Jim's exit. I feel there is hesitation from the "higher" ranked candidates as there is surely risk in taking the job. Yes, you may succeed in the W-L column, but as Jed stated, the next HC will have to basically win the SB. That is a hard pill to swallow for some egos. There wont be as much pressure with the other 5 openings in the short term. Could be like "man, Jed is going to fire me if we dont win the SB this year." That "fear" may put the brakes on some of these guys to be like "hmmmm, do i really wana deal with this ownership and try to top what Jim did?"

Just my two cents anyway. I hope they find the right guy soon but please take your time Trent!

Well as a HC candidate it's a matter of making your mark in the NFL, it shouldn't be about worrying about the consequences. I'm also not sure about the Jed, Trent and Jim relationship, both didn't seem to budge on their stances with the team and staff, that's just my opinion of course. But I think we can be sure that the next head coach will get a longer leash due to changes that will need to be made while at the same time trying to win on the fly.

Disagree. The fact that seasoned coaches like Shanahan and Holmgren have come out from the woodworks to show their interest in the HC vacancy on our team (note that none of those coaches have showed interest anywhere else) is telling to what this roster has to offer for the next few seasons.

I agree with Kolohe. I think Ed Werder said it best on ESPN a month or so ago. Ironically, Jim Harbaugh would be the most sought after coach, while the 49ers would be the most coveted HC vacancy. I think guys are salivating to come here -- I hope Jed and Trent take advantage of this and get a proven guy e.g. Holmgren, Shanahan, Kubiak.
Not sure where to post this, but where did the main Harbaugh thread go?

Shanahan is interested in the Chicago job.

Hope you guys are right! On the surface it seems why wouldnt any coach not want a shot with us, but you just never know what's exactly going on behind closed doors.
does anyone else remember that in 2012 mike shanahan was the HC and kyle shanahan was the OC of the redskins and they took their team from a 5-11 team to a 10-6 playoff team. with RG3 and a rookie RB named alfred morris who ran for over 1600 YARDS as a rookie! you guys in shanahans first year with them he had morris rush for 1613 and RG3 rush for 815. this is our return to ground domination! this is our guy!! that is already our teams identity we have the personnel we have the experience. we have no time to downgrade from harbaugh to a coordinator the only way jed an baalke would have gotten rid of harbaugh would be to get a HC that has won it all. need i mention shanahan is the OC who got steve young to stop scrambling and pass from the pocket. this is our guy this is our teacher. the only other option i see qualifying for us is holmgren but shanahan is even better for this team. now lets pray

If that were true, then they wouldn't be having as many interviews, why waste your time auditioning before a couple of balloonheads that you don't even want to work for for. I think the story is not nearly as one-sided as posters on here make it out to be and I think those around the league have a good idea of what went down and that Harbaugh isn't nearly as saintly in all of this as people around here seem to assume. I think that there were mistakes made all around but nothing egregious enough on the part of the ownership that it would scare candidates away from the opportunity to coach a playoff ready roster.

It is true. And it's the reason Josh Mcdaniels stayed away from us in 2011, which was reported. And just because were getting a lot of interviews now doesn't mean that the front office isn't dysfunctional.

A lot of guys are going to want to take a head coaching gig simply because of the pay raise. Add on to that all the positives that come with coaching the 49ers in terms of the weather, a storied franchise, and a deep roster that is already set to win and it's no wonder we can set up so many interviews. All those things outweigh the problems that may come with the upper management.

Anyone that thinks that are front office is organized and in good shape is fooling themselves. A franchise that is strong up top simply does not let the nonstop negative stories leak out like they did the past year and a half.
The (perceived) front office disfunction could actually give cover to a potential coach if things do go bad. Best case for a new coach would be to push this very talented team over the top and get a superbowl win ( or 3 ). After a couple years you can either get a high priced extension or piss off Jed and get your walking papers to take a high priced coaching gig almost anywhere you choose. Worse case is the team under performs for a year or two and you get fired. But you can always point to being in a tough division and have a bad front office. A lot of teams will look past one bad experience if the front office is questionable. Honestly our opening would be perfect for either a young offensive mind that does not mind letting the defensive staff handle its own business or a vet wanted that one last shot at a title. I doubt we will be turned down by the coach we offer the job too.
