And based on what their owner said, they may very well both be out the door soon.

It is true. And it's the reason Josh Mcdaniels stayed away from us in 2011, which was reported. And just because were getting a lot of interviews now doesn't mean that the front office isn't dysfunctional.

A lot of guys are going to want to take a head coaching gig simply because of the pay raise. Add on to that all the positives that come with coaching the 49ers in terms of the weather, a storied franchise, and a deep roster that is already set to win and it's no wonder we can set up so many interviews. All those things outweigh the problems that may come with the upper management.

Anyone that thinks that are front office is organized and in good shape is fooling themselves. A franchise that is strong up top simply does not let the nonstop negative stories leak out like they did the past year and a half.

Not to mention, guys will interview for jobs they aren't interested in because it gives them additional leverage.
Jim Harbaugh is a good coach and there is no debating that. But by all accounts he has an ego the size of California and is a big a*****e. There's no doubt in my mind that his antics on the sidelines have costs the 49ers several calls. You continue to show up the refs and it's going to cost you. He has wore out his welcome at every stop and no employer was sorry to see him go. If he was too stubborn to let Roman go then it was time for him to go. When you lose to the Rams,Bears, and Raiders because you can't score and get taken to the wire against the Redskins and Giants it's time for a offensive change. The problem was Harbaugh never changed the offense. 2 TE sets to run the ball and 5 to 8 yard passing plays. Other then CK running its one of the easiest offenses to defend in the league. Stack the box against the run and jam the receivers because we simply won't throw the ball down the field.

The owner said the new coach will dictate that where McDaniels comes in IMO

Unless of course the owner thinks they are pushing for him to save their own jobs.

Lovie Smith is picking the OC, if you look at his history of OC hires, Roman's odds are pretty good.

True they gonna be picking Mariotta #1
The performance of the candidates who are in the playoffs must weigh in the decision to hire. The auditions have begun. If the 49ers are to hire an existing OC has head coach, I would like to see which offense succeeds against the best defense. Denver got their ass whooped against the Hawks in the Superbowl. The offsense got shut down. Adam Gase was the OC. I would like to see how he does again this year.

I would actually love to see Roman work with Mariotta. He's somewhat similar to Kap, and it would be telling as to who was truly responsible for the failure of the Niners offense. If Mariotta thrived under Roman I think we could safely say that Harbaugh was a lot more responsible for the Niners underperforming that any of us thought. If Mariotta bombed, then I think it would confirm what we all thought of Roman.

I know it wouldn't be an apples to apples comparison (different players, different teams, different coaching personnel), but it would at least be a very fun comparison!

Good point. Always possible coaches grow and learn too.
If cowgirls can't run the ball they are done

Disagree. The fact that seasoned coaches like Shanahan and Holmgren have come out from the woodworks to show their interest in the HC vacancy on our team (note that none of those coaches have showed interest anywhere else) is telling to what this roster has to offer for the next few seasons.

I agree with Kolohe. I think Ed Werder said it best on ESPN a month or so ago. Ironically, Jim Harbaugh would be the most sought after coach, while the 49ers would be the most coveted HC vacancy. I think guys are salivating to come here -- I hope Jed and Trent take advantage of this and get a proven guy e.g. Holmgren, Shanahan, Kubiak.

Shanahan is interested in the Chicago job.

Oh please. He would take the SF position 1,000,000 out of 1,000,000 times
