I think kubiak did a really good job in Houston. When he took over in 2006, houston had fallen back to almost expansion level again. He had schab playing really well til the tail end of his tenure. I think they peaked in 2012 when they started like 11-1, but got drilled by NE on a Monday night and it was never the same after that.

Kukiak has issues he will have to explain during the interview but if he has learned from his mistakes he would be a really good coach for the 49ers.

Make sure the new HC is on board with leaving the defense to him, give him a nice raise, give him an AHC title upgrade as well and call it a day.

That was easy! It would be an epic failure, anything short of exactly that. In which case, I can be found in a York/Baalke thread. If he doesn't care about AHC then so be it but whoever is coming....hands off on this side of the ball.

I agree...I'm not gonna lie, both he and Mike shanahan are on the top of my wish list because I absolutely love their flavor of WCO.

Candidate generating interest under the radar: Gary Kubiak. After (if) #Ravens are out of playoffs, expect #49ers to talk to him. #Jets, too

Might be awhile with leveon bell out

Talking to people who know Todd Bowles well, wouldn't be surprised to see him land at a low-key place — ATL or Oak. He can be very choosy

WAS routing for Pittsburgh. Kubiak is acting just the way you want a guy to act in this position, dedicated to the team he is with. Point, Kubs

plus lets not forget the guy had a stroke on the sideline in midseason. houston was a very good football team for a few years under kubiak. unfortunately in this league everyone wants to remember how it ended and not look at the entire package.

The zone scheme did a lot for that OL, we haven't heard anything from them since he left. They were getting that clean deep shot look off the naked boot on the play action. League has seen this for a while but this guy made Justin Forsett a 1200yd rusher. Torrey takes the top off on that naked boot. Even Smith Sr. and Aiken have stretched the field. Paging Ellington, Patton or draft pick to be.....need a speed WR in this scheme.

Sammie Coates, working with a competent WR Coach. Bewm!

As it stands right now, it's hard to tell what direction the team is going to go. To me, Gase is the biggest boom or bust on this list. I'm really iffy on him. I like Fangio and Austin, but really don't know how great of a fit either of them are. It's great being able to cope with defensive injuries, but what about offense? Has anyone proven to be able to cope with those? The Broncos seemed to struggle once Sanders and Manning got nicked up.

Personally, no matter who we go with as HC, we still need to find a strong OC. One person they may consider for OC would be Carl Smith, Seattle's quarterback coach. He was last an OC for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2005-2007 when they made the playoffs twice in that span with Byron Leftwich and David Garrard. In 2005, the team went 12-4 despite Leftwich (who was the starter), Garrard, and Quinn Gray (3rd string) all seeing time at QB due to injuries.

Unless his contract is up, I don't see how he could become an OC with the 49ers. QB Coach to OC is still regarded as a lateral move and if Seattle really likes the guy, its doubtful that they'd give their approval.

No not lateral, it's an obvious promotion. Most teams will not block a coach from being promoted on another team unless he isn't all that interested in leaving to begin with, or sometimes if it's to a division rival. No team wants to earn the reputation of preventing coaches from progressing in their career.

Although we did that to Donatell twice.

would be very satisfied with kubiak as HC.

If I had to choose between Kubiak and any of the Shanahans, it'd be Kubiak by a landslide.

Agreed. He's my #1 choice followed by Gase.
