Why? For starters, we're not in Salary Cap Hell and they are going to have to make a LOT of cuts and restructures. Nobody even knows if Manning WILL come back let alone, if the Broncos want to pay him $19M. Plus you have key FA's like J.Thomas who may not be back either, Elway fired all the offensive staff, etc. I think everyone on that teams knows their run is over. They had a REAL 2-year window. Elway has the same expectations as Jed (win the Superbowl) but he's much less likely to win one next year even if Manning DOES come back (he's really aged and Gase is restricted with him). Their future looks very poor. For Gase, you'd think this is a golden opportunity to get out from under Manning's shadow and work with some great tools and a team that is in great salary cap shape and now will have a #15 pick in the draft, a top 5 defense without all-pro players who now will be coming back, etc. My question is why would anybody want to stay in Denver? They are done and at best, absolute best, have one more year just to compete...with little chance of winning a Superbowl.
