I have been thinking of this for days...as you all have.

i have come to my conclusion.

it has to be Shan, Ryan or Kubiak.

i am intrigued by the coordinators. Especially Gase.

but in the end, no matter how bright their minds are, they just are not battle tested leading men.
they could turn out great, or flame out quickly.

the 3 retreads could at least be cool calm and collected and handle their business.

If Ryan had an awesome OC this could be magic.
Kubiak clearly is a safe choice - will ownership be patient enough if his playoff run is deep?
Shan could stabilize and move forward quickly. ( is he too much of a tyrant for todays NFL?)

Yah no kidding. If the 9ers would've faced Carolina it would've been round two for the 9ers in the playoffs lol.

Injuries frickin suck.

So frustrated the last 48 hrs.

Niners could have beat all 4 of these wild card teams.
(healthy D of course.)

The fans want Shanahan because they know him and his track record. But, most fans are dumb. They never think about anything down the road.

Shanahan would keep the ship stable, but eventually would wear out his welcome like he did in DC. Hes very strict, hes old school, and has a bad temper. He badmouthed RGIII in the media, and has spurned about every owner hes coached for. We need less of that now.

BTW, at one point while with the 49ers after a bad breakup with Al Davis, Mike Shanahan ordered Elvis Grbac to throw a football at Al Davis' head during warmups before a game. Funny, but it gives you an idea of his mindset...

I'd be kind of disappointed if they didn't at least wait a week to try and talk with Kubiak potentially.

They haven't satisfied the Rooney rule yet. So they'll have some time. But yeah, it's looking more and more like Shanahan every day.

....Then i remind myself what it feels like to get a 10 point lead and shut the offense down.
or have no time outs left in the 4th qtr...
or knowing that on 3rd and 8 in the redzone Kap wouldn't get the play in time to snap the ball...

then i don't miss him.
try it...it works.

I know last years team only Seattle might have beat us and still we might have been able to beat them; they arent as good as last year. Then the AFC probably everyone but maybe Denver, probably could beat NE... Balt matches up with us too but still should have went to 2 rounds even with the injuries and off the field stuff this year. Without it I'd say NFC CG at least.

that's all true. makes you feel a little better knowing it means romans gone too. if it doesnt then it would really be a waste. and yeah harbaugh could be an all time great but he has that nolan/singletary stubbornness. need to learn to adjust, learn to fire coaches...

Yep, the young coaches just arent battle tested. I think they flame out. Gimme an older coach whos seen it all.
We are the best destination for any of the coaches available.

Harbaugh has given the franchise a competitive and winning culture in terms of psyche, any coach coming in whether they be young or old does not have to worry about putting a professional mental approach in place, they know they have a team of hard working dedicated players who have play-off experience. We have a young physical freak of a QB who's shown glimpses of elite ability but lacks consistency.

What the team lacks, and why Harbaugh was fired, is the refined technique, situational ability and player development in terms of their skills (Harbaugh just could not develop young players on the offense side - particularly wide receivers). This is why I want a Kubiak or Shanahan.

Shanahan worked with Steve Young, he can develop the necessary QB skills in a dedicated and hard working player like Kap. RG3 is a basket case, worried about his brand and his petulance indulged by Snyder, Kap will listen and Shanahan can provide him with the direction he needs and the skill development to reach his potential.

Kubiak might not be as good in terms of developing someone like Kap but he has taken far worse players and made them serviceable - he would need someone like Trestman who can teach the finer points of being a QB but I also think he brings a lot to the table in terms of coaching.

The emphasis from the press conference on "teachers" is a message in itself as to what the problem with Harbaugh was - he installed a winning mentality but thought that mentality would overcome poor technique and play calling, it was all about a battle of wills etc. and being tough, he didn't coach skills, technique or situational football and that's demonstrated by the lack of development in the players we drafted on Offense, particularly WR's. Jenkins may be a bust, but Ellington and Patton have shown glimpses and on any other team they would be playing and learning - instead we stuck them behind the likes of Lloyd on a 1 year deal.

I think whoever we hire as HC will have been asked how he plans to develop players and coach them up and that will have been the emphasis in the interviews.

Based on what? The rumblings of people who have no idea whats going on?

Shanahan has already proven himself to be flawed. The way he handled his time in Washington was embarassing. Hes the safe pick for staying the way we are, but I highly doubt he improves us. He also has meltdown potential. Hes old, set in his ways, and would likely clash with Baalke over power over the roster.

Fans are getting all scared and developing the panicked opinion that Shanahan is the only option. Its not 1998, and we dont have a John Elway/Terrell Davis combo. Plugging Shanahan in isnt going to solve our issues.

No it isn't. Assistant HC doesn't mean anything, its an honorary title. As far as the NFL is concerned, there are two types of coaches, head coach and then everyone else.

So whether you call a coach a QB coach, an offensive coordinator, a linebacker's coach, an assistant head coach, the GrandMaster of Defense, it's all the same thing as far as the NFL is concerned and would still be considered a lateral move.

So you can't hire a QB coach from another team to be your OC because that would be a lateral move by NFL standards?

No that is not a lateral move, the OC is definitely a promotion and they are allowed to steal an asst coach under contract for a promotion. And I'm believe that "asst head coach/OC" is a promotion and not a lateral move and thus would be allowed.
