Current situation: No agreement with Gase, but GM Trent Baalke is scheduled to talk with Gase soon. Baalke back in Bay Area; Gase in Denver.

Lots of young talent on their defense for a coach to work with.

I know that, but one I am definitely not sold on Tomsula and two I rather have an offensive HC. Don't forget, even if they make Tomsula as HC, we will still have to resolve our offensive woes which was the biggest problem in the first place. Then, who are you going to get as OC ?
Well that is the big question. But at the same time, with hiring an OC as HC, you don't know what your getting either. The only OC-type coaches left to hire as an HC are Gase and Shannhan (McDaniels to if those reports are false). Another thing your going to get any of those hires is a possible chance of the defense taking a step back as well. I guess they are taking a chance on any of these hires. This hire is going to be on the borderline of a rebuild if you ask me.

Why? For starters, we're not in Salary Cap Hell and they are going to have to make a LOT of cuts and restructures. Nobody even knows if Manning WILL come back let alone, if the Broncos want to pay him $19M. Plus you have key FA's like J.Thomas who may not be back either, Elway fired all the offensive staff, etc. I think everyone on that teams knows their run is over. They had a REAL 2-year window. Elway has the same expectations as Jed (win the Superbowl) but he's much less likely to win one next year even if Manning DOES come back (he's really aged and Gase is restricted with him). Their future looks very poor. For Gase, you'd think this is a golden opportunity to get out from under Manning's shadow and work with some great tools and a team that is in great salary cap shape and now will have a #15 pick in the draft, a top 5 defense without all-pro players who now will be coming back, etc. My question is why would anybody want to stay in Denver? They are done and at best, absolute best, have one more year just to compete...with little chance of winning a Superbowl.
I kind of posted about my reasons earlier. But, just say even if Manning retires and the Broncos go into rebuild mode, that will give Gase much more time to make things work as expectations would be far lower.
But, if he goes to the 9ers, as Baalke said this is a reload not a rebuild and York said is Super Bowl or bust, that means Gase will pretty much have to get the team back to the playoffs right away. Can you imagine what will happen if we miss the playoffs again next year ? The fans will explode especially the Harbaugh supporters who hated York's move in firing him.
In other words, the 9ers job is far more risky.
On top of that, Elway just fired a coach that went to the playoffs 4 years in a row, you don't think he might have some unrealistic expectations.
Finally, look at Harbaugh and Fox. If you do your job, have success and get fired mainly because you couldn't win a super bowl, then you will have no problem finding a job.
