people just trying to rationalize the moves by the FO

No, its just the "hire really old guys" crowd that is irate. There is a many here that wanted Gase all along. He has consistently been one of the most popular candidates.

Wrong. There is another crowd that is irate and it is the 'Fangio needs to stay" crowd. Hiring Gase most likely means he doesn't and that is disappointing to say the least

Hey...I'm in both those crowds and I'm not irate! And old guys rule!

Is he? He has been a DC for one year in Denver (20th) before getting the Oakland job.

Ya, but do you remember how that D turned it up in the final 6 to 8 weeks when Tebow was the QB? They played great.
What's taking so long.....

Wow Saban thought that highly of Gase? I know Saban had a poor showing in MIA, but I respect him as a football mind. I'm one inch closer to getting on the Gase bandwagon.

Nice read. I no longer doubt Gase's football mind. Compliments from Saban speaks volumes to me. I've read what Martz has to say and I hold that in high regards as well. The only thing left is his communication skills which seem to be good. I originally wanted a young creative offensive mind. With each article I read of Gase, he seems like that guy. Having these proven football minds be so complimentary of Gase cements it for me. Really the only thing left to question, in my mind, is his leadership skills - which is obviously huge and is an unknown for a rookie HC.

Here is another quick article...people like to say Manning calls all the audibles

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/11/24/7275451/peyton-manning-adam-gase-audible-broncos-dolphins

If Gase is hired, Rathman would be a happy man:

"After two years in Detroit's scouting department, Gase ached to get back to coaching, his calling. He had become close with Lions running backs coach Tom Rathman, who wanted to make him an assistant with his position group ("I think he just wanted me to do his depth charts for him so he wouldn't have to do them," Gase joked). It was 2005, and Saban was about to head to the NFL himself (he coached the Miami Dolphins for two years), and Gase could have joined them there, but instead opted to knock on the door of Lions head coach Steve Mariucci to ask about the chance to work under Rathman. "

Was that him or John Fox (former DC) taking control?

Other than not being a head coach before, can we list the pros and cons of this dude, Gase?

Pros:
  • Super detailed oriented above and beyond mentality

Background in all major offensive systems. Been around some great coaches and game plans adapt to players.

  • Two years with Manning and he got Manning some of his best years in production. This also includes Manning's injured games.

Good idea! We can pull from articles as well. It's a great idea to post the positives and the "concerns" to watch for.
He also got to pick the brain of Manning for the last 3 years and 2 of those years as an OC. Never hurts to know what Manning is thinking and what he sees.
I think vic need to understand that this team is a Super Bowl team, so why leave when he has the chance for a ring?

And we expect him to create a team physical enough to compete in the NFC west?

He may be an offensive genius, but even Bill Walsh struggled against tough defenses. The niners need a tough cowheresque type coach, not a Sean Peyton.
But Payton won one of these:

I think if Fangio goes, Donatell would be the guy and I would expect him to do well in that position.

Pros:
  • Super detailed oriented above and beyond mentality

Cons:

untested, no head coaching experience, unsure if can he command a locker room

Pros:
  • Is said to work great with other minds and is flexible.
  • Well respected once people see him work

Pros:
  • Will stay on his side of the ball!!! That definitely works with this team!

Pros:
  • Said to be one of the smartest offensive minds in football
  • Managed to navigate between Elway and Fox with no negative results to his reputation
  • Handled Manning's ego

Cons:
  • Fangio will leave
  • JSmith will retire
  • Gore will go to another team
  • Defense won't be as elite

Pros:
  • Fangio has a year left on his contract
  • J Smith hasn't announced his retirement
  • Gore may be really looking forward to a better offense
  • Defense could be better but won't be as needed if the offense scores more than 20 points per game

Well if Gase is hired and it doesn't pan out, your looking at at least 2-3 years of no playoffs before a new HC is probably brought in again. I doubt they fire him after only 1 year.
Have no clue how you reach this conclusion.

Sooooo.... With Gase being hired, Vangio and Justin smith will retire. Then Vangio will be replaced with Dennis Allen?

Fangio has a year left on his contract and I doubt he will walk away from that money. Are you mispelling Fangio's name on purpose for some reason?

Lol no just woke up. My mistake

I do not believe the question will be about whether he can get a competent offense installed here, and help Kap. Re member, it is more than the Manning doubts (that Manning is the real OC). He won with Tebow after all. He was able to adjust to strengths.

The real question is can someone as young as he is command an entire team, some of whom are as old as he is. If he tries the "Who's got it better than us" in a squeaky, pre-pubescent voice ... that will not cut it

Gase: Oh, Come on you guys smile! Who's got it better than us?

Bowman: Shut up, Dweeb.
