If Jack Del Rio gets hired as #Raiders coach, fired Falcons head coach Mike Smith is Del Rio's top choice as defensive coordinator.

Good choice......

Could we possibly bring over one of those WR's?

Not surprising since they worked together in Jacksonville.

Isn't he a FA?

Yep. He has done everything from scouting, breaking down film, coaching QBs, coaching WRs, and calling plays. What more could you want from an offensive guy?
His last name has to be Holmgren or Shanahan!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds right. He was his DC in Jax.
Someone mentioned he was a scouting assistant for Matt Millen? Now I know he's not drafting the players but that's a scary thought

Because of his coaching background. You know, like people talk about the background of all the coaches mentioned in this thread. Anything else?

Just for the record...

...I feel quite a bit like the way I did when Mike Nolan was hired.

Hopeful, but really, really skeptical. Not a fan of this move, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Hope I'm wrong as well but the guy just seems a bit raw at this point to be garnering so much attention. Is it a case of a relatively weak coaching pool this off-season? Perhaps. For a team to hire a coach whose background is passing (Martz) to coach a team whose personnel and competitive advantage is power football off the run it is peculiar. At some point we need to stop babying Kaepernick and just find the right guy for the team, not just the right guy for Kaep.

John Harbaugh fits in an even lower category in terms of HC qualifications.

The most important thing to me is that Gase started literally from the bottom...Jim H. style.

This. Harbaugh was a long time special teams coordinator and then a DB coach for a season before he got hired.

Yep. He has done everything from scouting, breaking down film, coaching QBs, coaching WRs, and calling plays. What more could you want from an offensive guy?

Plus he said he didn't favor scouting and desperately wanted to be a HC. This means he'll leave the scouting to Baalke so that could be a nice marriage.
