Hopeful, but really, really skeptical. Not a fan of this move, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Marvin, we need your reconnaissance! Get over to the Broncos's fan forum, sift through the hate and see if you can find some, good, objective scoop on Gase (pros and cons).

Already done some light work there yesterday.

Most wanted to see him gone. Many hold him and his "lack of imagination" responsible for loss to Seattle in SB. Not sure if that's fair or not.

Still, kinda tough to argue with 55 TDs, 10 INTs and 5400 yards last year by Manning. It Is Manning after all, but that's Manning putting up possibly his best season at 37.

Many would argue Gase had Manning so it was easy to put up great numbers, but nobody had ever put up those numbers before. Also could be argued that Gase has seen what it takes at that position to succeed BECAUSE he worked with Manning.

I dunno tho...way too easy to make the opposite argument tho on this one. I think I'll have to wait and see. Also very curious who they bring in to be the OC, if Vic remains at DC (scared I'm going to hear the name Dennis Allen soon).

That's where I'm at. I'll feel better if Fangio stays, but this move scares me.

This feels vaguely similar to the moment I handed the car keys to my 16 year old daughter for the first time.

Why do you mention it then?

Baalke is a disciple of Parcells and so is Sparano so there is that connection...I think that's why he mentioned Parcells name.

Unless the reports are true that Gase will not hire a OC.

Hope I'm wrong as well but the guy just seems a bit raw at this point to be garnering so much attention. Is it a case of a relatively weak coaching pool this off-season? Perhaps. For a team to hire a coach whose background is passing (Martz) to coach a team whose personnel and competitive advantage is power football off the run it is peculiar. At some point we need to stop babying Kaepernick and just find the right guy for the team, not just the right guy for Kaep.

He also worked for Mooch and Saban. He has experience in a lot of different offenses. It gives him the ability to adjust (ie. Manning gets hurt, and he adjusts to make CJ Anderson look like a pro bowler).

He'll have an OC, he just wants to call his own plays

He will hire an OC, but will call plays himself.

John Harbaugh fits in an even lower category in terms of HC qualifications.

The most important thing to me is that Gase started literally from the bottom...Jim H. style.

This. Harbaugh was a long time special teams coordinator and then a DB coach for a season before he got hired.

Yep. He has done everything from scouting, breaking down film, coaching QBs, coaching WRs, and calling plays. What more could you want from an offensive guy?

Plus he said he didn't favor scouting and desperately wanted to be a HC. This means he'll leave the scouting to Baalke so that could be a nice marriage.

Sure, as long it is not wide receivers.

Very true...seems like he gets the best out of what he has to work with...Tebow, Manning x2 (healthy and non-healthy), etc. I think the thing that got me most excited was that the final 6 games he switched to a running game despite Bell being hurt and jumped from 80 yards to 131 a game for a worn-down Manning and actually put up MORE points. The ability to switch-on-the-fly and adapt to circumstances and get the most out of his personnel has me very much excited.
I force myself to remain optimistic. I have no idea what to expect. Lets see how the dominoes fall.

Right! The last month Manning was hurt he took their 3rd string rb and avg around 120 yards a game, good for top 10 in the league.
Gase is a gamble, but what head coach isn't? Any time you hire a new head coach you will have as many question marks as answers to why he is your guy.

If we weren't the team giving him his break, someone else would be, and in the event that he became the next great head coach, fans would be killing the front office for passing on him. You just never know about anyone until they get their shot, and I think he has earned it.
I would much rather be playing for the NFC Championship than looking for a new coach.

So we'll be seeing a Sean Peyton or McCarthy on the sideline. It'll be interesting.
