You do know that Kubiak actually was an NFL quarterback right, and that he took Schaub and had him playing at a Pro Bowl level for a number of seasons.

Hmmm, Kubiak would have to be an idiot to turn down the 49ers gig. I understand he has a good deal in Baltimore... but, NFL HC gigs are not very common. And I don't know why he'd turn one down now.

Not sure he would turn it down more likely 49ers feel that they cant wait to hire a coach.

Maybe, maybe not. If they already have their mind made up, they'll play the odds. It's not like all the other names out there are "too good to pass up". Ironically, this whole situation is oddly absent of anxiety; unlike the other HC changes in the past.

This is an employers market at the moment. Either because there's plenty of talent to choose, or everyone is more or less a step sideways.

Edit: and the 49ers have the sweetest gig. So, they can wait for Kub's (if that's their guy) and be fairly comfortable that he'll choose them over someone else.

There's probably good reason why the fans on here value these guys more than people across the rest of the NFL do.

I don't think they would be worried he would choose someone else. They are worried what kind of staff he would be able to get if he has a long playoff run and what if he is not all that interested in being a head coach and they wait to interview them and there Plan B and C coach get hired? I don't think anyone will believe Tomsula was choice A if they hire him in two weeks.

There is also a sentiment that our D would regress UNLESS we can keep Fangio. Apparently no other DC can take all this talent and do something with it.
Why does everyone have such a hard on for Shanahan??

He has ONE winning season in 6 years. He hasn't won a playoff game since 2005.....Wasn't one of the issues with Jim based around control? Everywhere Shanny has coached he was in control and had issues with the FO.

Everyone gives Gase/McDaniels crap saying it's all Manning/Brady, but Shanahan had Elway when he won it all.

I think it's pretty bad that everyone is talking about a successor, when he hasn't even coached a down yet lol...and if they are already planning for a successor for Mike, who would it be?? and please do not say his son.

I'm down for zone-blocking, but SF was pretty darn good in the power run game the past couple years. He isn't the only HC candidate that has run some sort of zone-blocking either.

I want a HC that makes adjustments and creates match up problems (on a weekly basis) for the other team. If you watch NE and DEN games week in and week out the game plan changes according to the defense.

I want a coach that is there for the long term, not someone that everyone is already talking about a successor for

Maybe Kubiak has decided that he prefers being an OC at this point rather than HC. Money ain't everything. As a well paid OC I would imagine he isn't struggling to make ends meet, and there is a quite a bit less pressure than being the head honcho.

Marvin Lewis is hoping the Bengals don't fire his ass after losing another 1st rd playoff game.

There is really only one reason everyone is high on him and I think that is because this is a weak coaching pool. He is one of the few coaches out there with a track record that is good.

Gase and others are not sure things. While I think Shanahan has at least proven to be a good (not great) coach. If you go with a unknown commodity you will get unknown results. Could be great or could be awful. With Shanahan you know you will at least get decent to good.

Last 7 seasons i believe he has averaged 6.8 wins. That is not good.

good point. i wonder if fangio could have the same success elsewhere with lesser talent that what we have here. you always have to look at this from both sides.. these guys are pros and they will play hard for whatever dc comes in here,, if fangio leaves. our team did not dry up and shrivel away when jh left and i doubt our defense will vanish into the bermuda triangle if fangio leaves
