The more I read about Gase the more I like it. Every position he's coached he's gotten the absolute most out of those players (Brandon Lloyd, John Kitna, Tim Tebow) and while I initially discredited him for having the easiest job in sports (OC for Peyton), there's something to be said that Peyton's best year ever was under Gase. What are the odds that any player has their best year at age 39. That says something. He comes highly recommended and respected by highly respected players and coaches, his only real knock is his age but at the end of the day he really couldn't have done much more with the opportunities he's gotten and if we see him as a longterm investment then his age is a good thing (ex. Mike Shannahan likely won't be able to coach in 5 years best case).
While I would prefer the continuity of Fangio staying as DC if he does leave then honestly f**k him. He has no right to dictate our HC hiring process with these ultimatums of who to hire and quite frankly I wouldn't want a power player like that on the team under a new HC. No one can argue that Fangio doesn't have a top 3 talented defense and when you actually break down what he brings from a schematic standpoint it really isn't anything unique. We all forget the times we were sick of him for his bend but don't break philosophy and lack of blitzes (vs guys like Bowles and Zimmer who have extremely creative blitz concepts). He hasn't gotten a HC interview request from another team and is the highest paid DC in football coaching a top 3 talented defense. If that's not good enough for him then good riddance.
