That was a general statement...some people are un-sale-able when it comes to Kaepernick.

Considering their lack of dominant pass rushers and how much Bowles relied on the blitz, I don't think it would work out so well for Fangio with his conservative playcalling. I think pretty much anyone they get will be a downgrade because Bowles was an utterly perfect fit for their personnel. Ray Horton was a good defensive coordinator before him and Bowles did a heck of a lot better.

Serious question: bearing in mind I believe he is under contract to us (quite a generous one, too) for, I think, another year, why should we let him walk and go to a divisional opponent?

Can't see it.

"Adam is a lot like me in that he's always thinking of how we can do something better or different – or both," Manning told the New York Times. "And he has an almost photographic memory. He can recall a defensive scheme we say from eight games back and remember our exact formation and the play called."

Music to our ears!

Everything sounds good in the beginning, we shall see if he is the chosen one.

Background stories cast impressive light on #49ers coaching candidate Adam Gase http://blogs.mercurynews.com/49ers/2015/01/14/background-features-cast-impressive-light-on-adam-gase/

Yes but apparently not as a DC. He'll join the staff as a defensive assistant, passing game coordinator.

One thing I can say I really like about the idea of Gase becoming HC is that Grant Cohen doesn't like the idea. One of the problems I have with Fangio becoming HC is that Grant Cohen thinks it's a good idea.

I do agree with Cohn Jr on this though, he's absolutely right about the identity of this offense being run first, even if he's been trolling about promoting Solari if we keep Fangio. Not just that we are built to run first, but we succeed at it when we commit to it. If you hear what AD and Staley said, it's not about change and innovation, it's about getting back to our identity and going back to what works.

I don't even think he's on top of things in that regard. That last two serious O-line draftees are better suited to pass blocking and zone blocking than the existing system. And arguably the best run blocker in the group, Iupati, was also the worst pass blocker and is probably moving on to another team this season. I think Cohen is silly to assume things always stay the same as in, "we're this and we're going to stay this."

Would send the wrong message to all coaches around the NFL if we forced him to saty while we had a coaching change.

Leaves open the option for Fangio to be DC in AZ if he leaves SF

Would be a good hiring for AZ, but advantage goes to us. We know his system but he wouldn't know our new offense.

advantage goes to us?

We lose one of the best DC's in the NFL. There are no advantages to that

They just lost a better DC, in my opinion and would have to learn a whole new defense, sounds like a wash to me. Denver (under gase) smashed our defense this past year
Don't want Gase, unless Vic stays. If Vic stays I might be okay with it. If Vic leaves we are f**ked for years.

If he makes a huge fuss, the 49ers will let him go, they could however draw out the process a little until the Cards fill their DC position.

If he doesn't want to stay on the staff they wont make him. They will let him out of his contract and at that point he will be free to choice where he goes next.

got ya, again. I love the kid. his work ethic is fantastic and I hope he kicks ass, but sometimes (most of the time?) it doesnt happen. I feel next year is when we will really know his limits.

FWIW, #49ers haven't talked about Quinn for several days. All signs point toward Gase at this point.

knew that was the case. Unlike all those "reports" that Quinn was our top choice.
