That was a general statement...some people are un-sale-able when it comes to Kaepernick.

I think pretty much anyone they get will be a downgrade because Bowles was an utterly perfect fit for their personnel. Ray Horton was a good defensive coordinator before him and Bowles did a heck of a lot better.

"Adam is a lot like me in that he's always thinking of how we can do something better or different – or both," Manning told the New York Times. "And he has an almost photographic memory. He can recall a defensive scheme we say from eight games back and remember our exact formation and the play called."
Music to our ears!

One thing I can say I really like about the idea of Gase becoming HC is that Grant Cohen doesn't like the idea. One of the problems I have with Fangio becoming HC is that Grant Cohen thinks it's a good idea.
I do agree with Cohn Jr on this though, he's absolutely right about the identity of this offense being run first, even if he's been trolling about promoting Solari if we keep Fangio. Not just that we are built to run first, but we succeed at it when we commit to it. If you hear what AD and Staley said, it's not about change and innovation, it's about getting back to our identity and going back to what works.

Serious question: bearing in mind I believe he is under contract to us (quite a generous one, too) for, I think, another year, why should we let him walk and go to a divisional opponent?
Can't see it.

Leaves open the option for Fangio to be DC in AZ if he leaves SF
Would be a good hiring for AZ, but advantage goes to us. We know his system but he wouldn't know our new offense.
advantage goes to us?
We lose one of the best DC's in the NFL. There are no advantages to that

FWIW, #49ers haven't talked about Quinn for several days. All signs point toward Gase at this point.
