I don't think the coaching pool is weak...there are some very good coaching minds out there and people need to do some research instead of jumping on a big name. Coaches like Harbs don't become available every year.

There have been plenty of unknown commodities that have turned into good HC EX: John Harbaugh (ST coach), McCarthy (OC in bad offense), McCoy (said to be product of Manning), Chip Kelly ( College coach would play calling work in NFL?), Tomlin (was too young to be a HC) etc...

Mike really has been good since 2005 and it was a disaster in Washington....that all being said I'll take him over Tomsula lol

McCoy: back to back 9-7 seasons and missed the playoffs this year. Not sure i would call him a good coach.

Tough division, not a ton of play makers, and a injury plagued line...he brought Rivers back to life as well....he has given SD a chance to make the playoffs both years. I don't think he has a SB caliber personal, but they are heading in the right direction.

Dan Reeves posted double digit win seasons in 7 of his 12 years in Denver. Took them to 3 SB's but could never get over the hump, they they canned him hired Bum for 2 years before he was canned.

Your memory is failing you I think

Shanahan did come in and win 2 SB's in his first 4 years but the next 10 saw him go to only 1 Conference Championship game and lose out in 3 WC games.

Yes and Elway retired too. I just know he took that Niners magic to DEN and immediately won just as Mike Holmgren did. I was pissed that the NFL was taking our offensive coaches and replicating our success. Then everyone wanted to be us!

Mike Shanahan and Fangio interviewed, right?
Mark Daniels‏ @MarkDanielsPJ

McDaniels on the interviews with 49ers/Atl: "Honestly, just had an initial meeting with them. it hasn't gone further with either of them."

Fangio reportedly had a good interview. Shanahan interviewed with 49ers on Jan. 1.

You know, I'm willing to bet the next HC of the 49ers can't interview because they still have game(s) to play; NFL or COLLEGE

I have to laugh at anyone who uses Washington as proof Shanny has forgotten how to coach.

How may other coach's have lost their skills in Washington?

As for RGIII getting thrown under the bus, isn't that what he was trying to do to Shanny by going over his head to the owner?

Go back and watch the payoff game against Seattle and they were destroying the Hawks with a hobbled RGIII until he aggravated the injured knee and had to leave the game. They still had a chance to win, but the backup QB couldn't sustain any drives ad the D finally gave out

Thanks, Jcool. I thought for sure Quinn hadn't interviewed yet.

No to anyone from Seattle. We don't need anyone hampering Kap's development by using him as a gimmick QB.

Both Jake Plummer and Jay Cutler always seemed to throw those boneheaded picks at the worst time

we need to give it to Fangio. Make Donatell the DC. And get a good OC.

Fangio as HC - the defense will remain solid and competitive to keep the team in games. He would just need to bring in an OC we all hope can improve the offensive production. None of us know who this is going to be but Fangio knows this is the issue of the team so I'm sure he has someone in mind. If the niners do go with a DC as HC, it would be hard for me to believe they pass up on Fangio.

An offensive mind as HC - None of us know if bringing in an offensive mind fixes this offense right off the bat. It may take a couple of years. Also bringing in an offensive mind, the defense could take a step back because either Fangio walks because he was passed up or the new coach brings in his own DC. Baalke said this is a re-tooling year, not rebuilding. To me, bringing in a new coach and possibly new staff is sort of rebuilding.
So far, I think i would be most pleased with Shanahan, Kubiak or Gase. All of them ironically have ties to the Niners. Gase has the unknown upside. I think i like Kubiak the best though. He could help the offense and i think he would still stay consistent with the run... and if we can keep Fangio on D then that might be pretty solid. (Kubiak did alright in Houston with much less of a team then what we have right now.)
