Schefter already confirmed that the 49ers called up Gase and said "thanks but no thanks." They chose Tomsula over Gase.

May not have a choice. Management seemed hell bent on promoting Tomsula, even if it meant Fangio walking out the door.

Exactly why is Adam Gase a much better option than Tomsula?

One of these guys has been a coach for over 30 years and the other is 36 years old.

One has been in SF for over a decade and has ALWAYS been highly regarded. The other was here for a year as an assistant to Mike Martz.

Say what you will about not being an offensive coach, I gotta tell you, I don't hate this hire. I'd like it if Fangio stayed, but I don't have an issue with Tomsula. Would I have liked a "sexier" pick? Sure, but "sexy" doesn't win games.

What matters now is who gets hired in the coordinator positions. If it does end up being Trestman, we won't have to worry about him being plucked as a HC anytime soon.

Wait aren't you the one who was happy to fire Harbaugh with no clear better options available?

no matter how bad they bungled this hire, harbaugh wasnt coming back.

I certainly didn't count on them going with Tomsula, a guy they could have hired 4 years ago if Jed had such a massive boner for him.

I guess they were turned down by everyone, and Trent bumped into Tomsula this morning and said "Want to be a Head Coach"?

If he didn't agree, Trent was going to ask the Water Boy.

No question there is coaching downgrade from last year. There is no disputing that imo.

That's why I was in favor of swinging for the fences with Gase. At least it had the chance of being a brilliant hire. Tomsula, though a good coach, is not the innovator I felt we needed to take the next step.

Again...why the hell is Gase "swinging for the fences"? Still don't get that one.

FML. Its times like these that make it easy to go fishing, hunting, hiking, surfing or god knows what else on sundays.

Tomsula was the first and only choice. This whole coaching "search" has been a sham.
