I'm trying to keep an open mind but this is pretty disappointing, moreso because it feels like their entire coaching search was just one long charade.

Feel the same way. I'll fully support Tomsula, but I'm highly skeptical.
Wtf? A D line coach is promoted to lead one of the most storied franchises in NFL history. Someone wake me up please! The Raiders just hired there water boy so they are only a little worse off....... f**k!!!!!!!!

I'd like to see #49ers RB coach Tom Rathman stay as OC (and lure Gore back for Year 11), but I wonder if he'll go to #Bills with Greg Roman.

I'm not going to lie and say this exact thought is not going through my head..i feel we have been duped and the last 4 years was nothing more than a ploy to get his stadium and now we are back to the real yorks.

Nothing like overreaction in the 'zone

nothing like Marvin being a total blind homer as usual...everything is unicorns and rainbows in Niner land with you. give it a rest. all i said was the thought has crossed my mind....never said i believed it.

Could Niner fans try to resist calling people who try to keep a positive outlook things like "blind homer as usual"?

i agree and i actually never have used that up until now...dude is putting a blanket statement out on folks who may question the move.
I know OF Jim Tomsula. However, I don't know Jim Tomsula. Do you know Jim Tomsula? I have not seen him teach the Xs and Os. Have you seen him teach the Xs and Os? Is he a leader of men? I don't know. Do you know? I think Baalke knows Jim Tomsula have seen him teach the Xs and Os have seen him lead men. I reserve judgment until the end of next season.
Can we draft a HC and OC during this year's draft? Is that allowed?

Be funny if Gase became OC

Would be the silver lining to this awful offseason

Thats not happening but would be the best scenario
We just disassembled one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL to promote a D-line coach. Didn't we want an offensive mind to improve the offense and Kap? Wtf is this? Now we have no offense and our DC will leave. This makes no sense. The dark years will be upon us again soon. This is going to be a re-run of all the substitute teachers that were here before Jim. Baalke will have a lot of explaining to do. Jim took us to one SB and 2 NFCCG's.

LOL, if Rathman leaves and Fangio leaves, maybe Donatell too.....wow.

Again, it comes across as though as Jed is in WAYYY over his head. We cannot discount how they handled the situation with Jim and how it resonated throughout the league. Any coach worth his salt wouldn't want to get involved in an organization that treats a winning coach how Jim was treated. Jed f**ked it up. If we end up with Trestman and Tarver we're f**ked.

Its all about the quarterback. We have a supremely talented QB who regressed considerably and is running in a number of directions trying to get coached up. Then we fire a very successful coach and the owner implies that the team was not getting "coached up" enough by the current head coach / staff.

Then we waste a lot of time interviewing approximately 3,459 potential candidates. Then we rush out to Denver panicked trying to bring in the hot OC candidate du jour. And out of nowhere - they decide to hire the inhouse guy. And not the inhouse guy who was in charge of the defense. But the guy behind the guy, behind the guy, behind the guy who no one even knew interviewed for the job.

I just want someone to coach up Kap. I can't watch the abortive offense anymore. The consistent delay of game calls, the issue with red zone playcalling, the garbage that we've been for years on offense.

So that's why people are upset. The team fired the successful football coach and promoted the internal lovable character actor.

This. We are nearing a crossroads with our QB. He is at a critical stage in his career. He'll be 28 years old, the time to take the next step is NOW. The HC hire should have been the man best suited to tutor our QB.
They can still do that, we still dont know who our other coaches will be.

True, but now we're completely dependent on the off-chance the right OC becomes available and wants to coach under Tomsula. What offensive coaches is he connected with? Does he have connections throughout the league? The Ravens got lucky with Gary Kubiak this season, that hardly happens.

We had a chance to be pro-active and pick our own offensive guy for the HC position, and we blew it imo.
I feel you, but maybe Baalke does the coaching hires? idk it does seem bad now but maybe we end up getting the right coaches. I'm hoping we get Trestman that would make this hire seem better.

Exactly why is Adam Gase a much better option than Tomsula?

One of these guys has been a coach for over 30 years and the other is 36 years old.

One has been in SF for over a decade and has ALWAYS been highly regarded. The other was here for a year as an assistant to Mike Martz.

Say what you will about not being an offensive coach, I gotta tell you, I don't hate this hire. I'd like it if Fangio stayed, but I don't have an issue with Tomsula. Would I have liked a "sexier" pick? Sure, but "sexy" doesn't win games.

What matters now is who gets hired in the coordinator positions. If it does end up being Trestman, we won't have to worry about him being plucked as a HC anytime soon.

I like your optimism Marvin. I am usually right there with you but I am in full panic mode right now lol.
The main problem we're having is the unknown. we know all of these other candidates, what they bring and their philosophies so its easy to attach a name to what you think the team should be.
if Tomsula comes out and says i want the defense to stay the exact same as it is now and i want the team to run the best wco there is and we're going to make sure we do it..suddenly i don't think people would be as upset as they are now

it's wait and see
