Wouldn't have been my choice but I'm aware I'm not inside the building so I'm willing to to give Jed/Trent the benefit of the doubt. We all know, the coaching staff is more important than the HC. I am worried that qualified coaches won't want to take a chance with JT. Jed might have to seriously over pay for the coaching staff.

They could have fired Harbaugh after the bye week and given the reins to Tomsula. Then they could have found out if if can coach more than one game...

Thats not the issue at all, they just never had any intention of hiring anyone other than Tomsula which may affect them in the future since guys won't be wanting to waste their time, unsure if they are being used as props in a massive charade.

Schefter confirmed that Gase was told that the 49ers were choosing to go in a different direction, he never told them no. I don't believe that they had any real intention of hiring any of the guys that they interviewed or were all too serious about them.





Baalke flying to meet with Gase alone, without the rest now looks like they were just trying to having a second interview with some candidate so they could further spin it as a serious coaching search.

FWIW 49ers did a study abt great coaches yrs ago. 1 trait: be an asst on team that won 50 games/5 yrs. Tomsula: asst on team that won 49/4

As @TArostegui points out, Tomsula was actually on staffs that won 55 games over 5 years. And one of those wins was his own.
