Wide receiver Anquan Boldin heralded Jim Tomsula's promotion to head coach as a "good move," adding that Tomsula will not be "as tough" as Jim Harbaugh.

Here is the transcript from Boldin's telephone interview with Sports Illustrated's 120Sports.com:

Impressions of Tomsula's promotion: "I think it's a good move. He's a guy that everybody is familiar with. He's a guy that has a pretty good feel for the locker room, so I think it's a good move."

What offensive coordinator he would you love to see: "To be honest, it doesn't matter to me. I've played in a number of systems and have been able to thrive in whatever system I've been in. Whatever offensive coordinator comes in, we have the pieces in place to be a successful offense."

What is Tomsula like: "He's a great coach, first of all. For teams to be successful, you have to have as much continuity from year to year as much as possible. Hiring Tomsula gives us that continuity. The less change you have, the better chance you have of being successful the following year."

How much did the Harbaugh-ownership strife impact 2014: "If you talk to some people they'll say it played a part. But I honestly feel players play, and that's the bottom line. General managers don't play. Head coaches don't play. Wins or losses come from whether we play to the best of our ability."

What is Tomsula's style: "He'll be the same way, but I just think he has a pretty good feel for the locker room. Not saying Coach Harbaugh didn't. I don't think Coach Tomsula will be as tough as Coach Harbaugh was."

When they promoted Singletary, every player (including many still on the team), said they loved the hire. In fact, if we changed "Tomsula" for "Singletary" in that interview, it's practically identical to all the Singletary impressions when he was hired.

Total idiots. Letting Fangio walk. My only hope now is that Kaepernick will pull a 180 and kick arse on the field in 2015. Our defense could very well decline and yadda yadda.

Too pissed to type.

For once, I feel you bro. Want a hug

I'm in some sort of football shock. Somebody needs to convince me that the sky isn't falling.

Just how important was Fangio to our defensive success? Can we move on in stride?

Well, Fangio's never been good before he came to SF. Hopes are the personnel made the coach.

I vote yay. Title shall only be rescinded when we hoist Lombardi #6.

Man that is a lot of speculation there. I get it. You wanted Gase and have a right to vent in this forum as it was designed for. I just respect you as a contributor to this site and hope you don't turn into someone who hopes for a 5-11 season just to say... I was right...

Lived though that during the Alex years. Really thought some posters wanted us to lose just to say Alex sucks. Always want to be a fan who is hopeful and while this was not my choice, I still want to believe every opportunity was given to convince the ownership that Tomsula was there guy. If you want to say he seemed to have an advantage going in... I agree. To say that they went into it saying we are hiring him and will conduct multiple interview just to prove we are willing to have an open mind, seems like a stretch.

I could care less, had they picked someone else besides Gase that they interviewed, I would have been fine with. Tomsula just seems to reek of mediocrity, even worse, it fully breaks up the entire staff now. Fangio gone, Rathman likely gone, Solari gone, Donatell could very well be gone, all the assistant coaches that helped make this team successful are out the door it seems.

This is becoming a bigger nightmare scenario by the minute... Jed is just playing with this franchise like a toy his parents gave him. I'm now fully on board with the f**k Dork, he's an ignorant entitled little prick crowd now.

#CoachingSearchSham

Jed's business management experience prior to being named CEO of the 49ers:

1. Frat House President
2. Magic the Gathering High School Club President.

...pretty impressive.
Matt Barrows ‏@mattbarrows 2m2 minutes ago Justin Smith had 10 tackles, 3 sacks & doused Tomsula w/ Gatorade in Tomsula's single game as HC. Wonder if he puts retirement off a year.

I disagree. Unless the FO are a bunch of inept idiots there's no way he was the first choice. But assuming he was they are even more stupid. Knowing that you would also lose the best defensive coordinator in the league as well. If he were on the radar then they would also know that Fangio would leave so why would they deny Fangio the opportunity to interview with other teams? Why wouldn't they make the hire early so they could have a better choice of offensive coordinators? It smells like a f**k up to me.

I disagree. Like others are saying, what it looks like is that Tomsula was always the guy, they wanted to see if anyone was better than him rather than treat candidates equally with an open mind. I don't think they were ever serious about bringing in a coach from the outside but they needed the cover that a "coaching search" would give them in order to hire Tomsula.

Like one report stated, Tomsula's desire to bring Tarver onboard is one reason why the hiring is happening now, since all the Raiders guys are free to go wherever they want.

So you don't think this whole thing is a colossal s**t show?

Fair enough...he also wasn't Harbaughs biggest fan.

They all cheered when the news was announced. Willis was ecstatic. And Jed was up there with his s**t-eating grin, vowing that the team would never again be out of the playoffs.

I don't think he'll stay around for a Tomsula pitty party.

What do you expect Boldin to say???? He is employed by the 49ers. He isn't going to say anything bad about Tomsula.

I don't even know what you're referring to, but Boldin is a company man. Harbaugh was quote something to the effect of "he'll be a senator some day". No way he's going to run his mouth the first day a coach is hired.
