Was thinking the same thing myself. Hopefully the hire will convince Justin to come back. We need him to help transition into this new era.

Tomsula I think can be a very good head guy, but it really boils down now to who the coordinators are.

Exactly why is Adam Gase a much better option than Tomsula?
One of these guys has been a coach for over 30 years and the other is 36 years old.
One has been in SF for over a decade and has ALWAYS been highly regarded. The other was here for a year as an assistant to Mike Martz.
Say what you will about not being an offensive coach, I gotta tell you, I don't hate this hire. I'd like it if Fangio stayed, but I don't have an issue with Tomsula. Would I have liked a "sexier" pick? Sure, but "sexy" doesn't win games.
What matters now is who gets hired in the coordinator positions. If it does end up being Trestman, we won't have to worry about him being plucked as a HC anytime soon.
