The 49ers 2015 Coaching Search Thread(All Rumors and News Here)

Agreed. I look at it like this: Holmgren has shown no interest in coaching for any jobs that had been available for the last several years, including when we hired Harbaugh. All of a sudden, he is interested because we have a team that is capable of winning a super bowl. That, to me, sounds like a guy who is coming in and expecting it to be an easy job. If I am in the FO, I am leary.

That and he said he didn't want any other jobs, which tells me that he wants an easy, local gig, if he was serious about being a head coach, he'd be out there like Shanahan, meeting with the Bills, meeting with the Raiders....etc.

At some point its a matter of desire and Holmgren's own comments show that his ability to fully dedicate himself to the job and then some, as required, is questionable at best.

Man, so many of you are blind in hatred for the front office that it's lowering your general sense for the situation. The front office is doing an extensive search for their next coach. There is nothing wrong with that. I would have hoped that this was exactly how they would handle it. Meet all the top candidates, talk football and future plans, get an idea of their coaching tree, discuss it and weigh pros and cons. Ultimately, they are doing it right. I guess because they didn't hire someone the next day, they don't have a plan? That's a pretty silly point of view.
EVERYONE right now thinks there team has no plan in place. Being in Chicago, i keep hearing "the Bears have no plan in place". The problem this year is there are no clear head coaching favorite. There is no coordinator out there that is a lock to be a great coach, there is no Andy Reid's or Chip Kelly's out there. This is going to take some time to get all the candidates interviewed. I am sure they have an idea of the type of coach they want and are going through the candidates looking for it.

I am not saying its the best thing to do. But if you haven't won in over a decade, except for JH, at least give it a chance. Explore it and if you don't like it don't hire the man. But to flat out refuse the guy is very amateurish. Just saying!
Our interviews have been 4-6 hours long. Its nothing something you just do to do it. You have to have a predetermined and serious interest to even schedule it

Then why didn't even give the man chance? I am just asking. He has won more SBs than anyone Yorks have ever hired,

So Holmgren hasn't been contacted by the 49ers? WTF

I guess this is continued proof that the 9ers job is THE job on the market...retired coaches coming out now to want to coach us. That's a great sign.

Now, does this mean we haven't contacted him YET or we did contact him and expressed that we weren't interested.

I almost wonder if Holmgren is throwing out this bone to make our HC search even more attractive or he's genuine or it's his way or throwing his name back into the coaching circles.
It's a good job, but no need to spin it like you just did.

Says would have had interest in 49ers job but he heard nothing from them. Says has decided he's done coaching.

From the front page of webzone
"blind in hatred for the front office"????

I think some of you need to review the meaning of the word 'hyperbole.'

Shanahan is 5 years younger than Holmgren. They interviewed him.

Shanahan also coached sometime in the past 7 years. Its not just that Holmgren is old, its that he's been out of coaching for a really long time.

Why are they interviewing people who have never held a HC position at all?

Holmgren has forgotten more about coaching football than many of these coordinators have ever learned.

Well, this can be read a couple of ways. For example:

Hombren has forgot 10 of 11 units of coaching knowledge

Alternate Candidate has 9.5 units of coaching knowledge

Which do you prefer???
regarding Holmgren

Old fart like him would want total control and wouldn't wonna take orders from a novice like Baalke and an owner thats still green behind the ears.

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Mike Shanny. If the 49ers go the retread route, he's the guy I'd like to see. 62 is old, but I got a feeling the WAS debacle left a really bad taste in his mouth and he wants to vindicate himself. Plus, putting him back in red and gold can induce a certain amount pride since this is where he started to make a big name for himself. He also worked with a young Elway that had to be reigned in (as DEN's OC), which is kind of similar to Kap. Just keep the personnel decisions out of his hands.

I think in their own assessment his best days are behind him and he won't win the Super Bowl in 2015 or beyond

We saw how well it went the last time he had full control. The same guy who ripped the Browns for trading Trent Richardson to the Colts for a 1st round pick.

I have a feeling the retread option most probable is Kubs. Everyone being interviewed now is getting the "opportunity" to blow them away, but they're most likely not the "planned" target.

I'm hoping for Kubiak. He brings so much to the table and is still relatively young enough. Former NFL QB, has 3 Superbowl rings as an assistant, very talented OC, can put together a good quality staff.

Anyone worried that if the HC is anyone other than Fangio, he will take off in a year when his contract's up?
