If the 49ers go the retread route, he's the guy I'd like to see. 62 is old, but I got a feeling the WAS debacle left a really bad taste in his mouth and he wants to vindicate himself. Plus, putting him back in red and gold can induce a certain amount pride since this is where he started to make a big name for himself. He also worked with a young Elway that had to be reigned in (as DEN's OC), which is kind of similar to Kap. Just keep the personnel decisions out of his hands.

24-24 his last three years in Denver. ONE playoff win since Elway Retired. When Elway retired he missed the playoffs 3 of the next 4 seasons. From 2003-2008 he missed the playoffs 3 out of 6 seasons.
No to old ass Shanahan or Holmgren

EVERYONE right now thinks there team has no plan in place. Being in Chicago, i keep hearing "the Bears have no plan in place". The problem this year is there are no clear head coaching favorite. There is no coordinator out there that is a lock to be a great coach, there is no Andy Reid's or Chip Kelly's out there. This is going to take some time to get all the candidates interviewed. I am sure they have an idea of the type of coach they want and are going through the candidates looking for it.

This!

I have a feeling the retread option most probable is Kubs. Everyone being interviewed now is getting the "opportunity" to blow them away, but they're most likely not the "planned" target.

If that's the case, then I hope NE wins next week so Kubiak is free to interview. I agree he's a good candidate.

Hearing the #49ers interview with ex-NY Jets coach Rex Ryan took place Sunday in the Bay Area.

This. I have a weird feeling that Baltimore could go all the way though. Very complete team, on offense and defense. John Harbaugh has assembled a hell of a coaching staff, I'm pretty jealous.

Pete Carroll is older than Shanahan. Tom Coughlin is older than Mike Holmgren.

I'm not going to hold it against him with the "after Elway retired" stats. Lose a franchise QB, the team isn't as good. No surprise there. The one thing that is troubling is the whole "can't win without Kubiak" that some have posted. That is worrying.

You also seem to have forgot Jed grew up in Ohio not SF.

I've ways felt that one of the AFCN teams would have a say in the AFC and that it wouldn't be about just NE or DEN. An AFCN team always make waves when they make the tourney

Holmgren said the one job he may have been interested in was the 49ers coaching job, but they were not interested.

That sucks. f**k you Jed

He will be 67 years old and hasnt coached in almost 7 years.

So ?

Gase calls plays for Peyton Manning.
McDaniels calls plays for Tom Brady.
Hue Jackson, Teryl Austin, and Todd Bowles all proved this weekend why they would be horrible coaches for SF.

The best choices out there for us are Shanahan, Kubiak, and Holmgren. Don't get why age is such a turnoff for you guys -- we're not the Pittsburgh Steelers. We've shown in years past that our coaches (aside from Bill Walsh) do not usually make it to the 5 year mark, and they never will.

So based on that Sean Payton is horrible because it must be Brees calling the plays, McCarthy has nothing to do with the offense because it's all Rogers

You do know Holmgren had a pretty good QB when is was a OC in SF, then the Packers took him, same with Shanahan before he became HC in Denver

Why couldn't Gase or McDaniels be the next Holmgren/Shanahan?

Not gonna happen. People like BW come once in a life time. The best thing to do is to bring back the system that brought us 5 SBs and that's BW's WCO. MH offers the closest offensive philosophy to that system.

Why is that the best thing to do ?
I am not saying its the best thing to do. But if you haven't won in over a decade, except for JH, at least give it a chance. Explore it and if you don't like it don't hire the man. But to flat out refuse the guy is very amateurish. Just saying!

Well your above quote says you said it was the best thing to do.

They have a short list of candidates whom they are hiring, and just because one coach who some fans are still emotionally attached too is not reached out to you guys go off the rails. FYI the sky is not falling. They did mention they were looking for a long term solution, and at 67 years old MH is not that, yet Yorks gonna York is all the rage right now when it should be fans gonna fan. Some say they have no plan in place, but the plan has been outlined, cast a wide net to find a long term solution who can be a teacher not just a coach to lead this team and turn us into perennial winners. And again Big Mike does not check the long term box so they are not going to bother when they can spend there time interviewing the guys who do check all their boxes.

No matter who we hire some of you guys will question it, criticize it, and doom and gloom it. There is no way that the FO can win with everybody regardless of who they do or do not interview and who they do or do not hire. But all your huffing and puffing is not going to blow the house down.

I'm hoping for Kubiak. He brings so much to the table and is still relatively young enough. Former NFL QB, has 3 Superbowl rings as an assistant, very talented OC, can put together a good quality staff.

I'm all for Kubiak as well. Have the Niners actually expressed that they want to interview him? I haven't heard anything unless I missed it.

Zero playoff wins with out Kubiak as OC and was 13-3 the last year with Kubiak (made it to the AFC title game) the next year... 9-7 (fired two years later).
