This. I've never heard of something like this even being reported before. It sounds like he's got Mommy and Daddy looking over his shoulder.

How the **** is getting the FO assistance = having his staff picked for him. The FO is assisting JT, not the other way around. That means JT is getting their input but ultimately making the hire.

HARBAUGH got assistance from the SF FO in 2011. That's why Rathman and Tomsula were retained. Did people say the FO babied JH and didn't trust him to hire those coaching positions?

Off the ledge, everybody. Sheesh.

thanks

JH did let the FO hire an OC or DC. You know, the guys that run the units and tell players what plays to run. Lol

His pick for OC is huge. I don't necessarily have a beef with him being plucked for HC (could be worse) but more important than Tomsula is who is he gonna get to improve the offense?

This. His success will be largely dependent on his ability to form a good offensive staff.

Yes the OC is huge but here is the problem: We will NEVER have continuity on offense with a defensive minded head coach. You either have a rock star that leaves in 1-2 years (McCarthy, Turner) or a disaster (Raye, Hostler)...... ugh
Harbaugh got no assistance, Harbaugh had all the power to bring and keep whoever he wanted. It was part of his contract. He did not take one order to keep those guys. He sat down with both of them and he decided to keep them. All other power was retained by the front office regarding the roster and what not. Harbs had all power over the staff which he demanded to be the highest paid in the league and even hired more over the years. He got ZERO assistance when it came to his staff

Leavitt already left with Harbaugh.

What? I never heard that. Link?
The rest of the NFC West might have rejoiced with this Jed/Baalke hire. Tomsula might be a great motivator, knows whats happening in the locker room (whatever the heck that means) and ...oh well, he is the HC now.

Jed got the new stadium he wanted, screwed the fans with that profitable ticketing strategy, and hired a home-boy. Good for him, bad for the rest.

Hope Kaep improves
Hope the defense remains the same
Hope we improve the offense
... and now...

Hope Tomsula is a good coach
Hope Tomsula hires a good OC (and DC)

It's sad how these two bums are ruining the org. Will Tomsula be holding the SB trophy in 2016...can an Ostrich fly.

Tom is a great RBs coach and anybody would be happy to have him, but this tells a story to me. It says the 49ers and Tomsula want Frank back, and this is a move to make him want to come back.

That was my biggest concern with hiring a defensive coach as well. It's hard to find that stud career coordinator who has no interest in being a HC. Either he's great and he leaves, or he sucks and gets fired. Either way, it's tough to get continuity.

Yep, couldn't have all these successful guys continue to work together, that would be wrong.

Nobody runs a puppet regime in the NFL like the San Francisco 49ers. Just wait until the contract details come out.

I'm really trying not to be negative. I've always liked Tomsula, and I thought he had earned a promotion (to DC, IMO). But, this really blows the "not rebuilding, but retooling" thing out of the water. The roster is still loaded with talent, but this is a much more extreme change than we were told would happen.

When is the last time you saw it reported that a head coach was getting "assistance" from the front office in picking his staff.

Its a given that every coach will work with the front office to some degree but that the decision is ultimately their own. That's never something that needs to be reported and that it is, makes me wonder to exactly what extent the front office's involvement amounts to.

I would have this same reaction regardless of who the candidate it was. The front office is "assisting".....not sure how that can be considered a good thing when it is publicly announced, that's the equivalent of saying the head coach will be held by the hand pretty much.

It's was reported because the media wants to paint Baalke/York in as bad a light as possible. They've chosen their angle (JT is a puppet/clown/yes man/baffoon that needs the FO to wipe his ass") as they point and laugh at the 49ers.
