I'm just very pessimistic at this point in time. This hire screams "Jed York" at the loudest possible volume. Now if they put together a superior staff around Tomsula and by superior, I mean a staff up and around the caliber of the other top teams in the NFL, then I'll certainly step down from the ledge and be a lot more open minded about this.

Of course we would but then we'd have York telling us that He told us so!

We don't know that yet. I agree that he's more experienced as a coach and a better coach overall but the potential is always there for him to fall flat on his face. The 49ers went out and hired a guy that nobody else even wanted to talk to. The reports about him politicking for the job during the season are also kind of worrisome.

Like I said, I'll reserve further judgment until I see what the coaching staff ends up looking like.

So the most important question will be is he going to wear suit, khakis? Or the full Adidas style sweatsuit

I'm more of a wait and see guy myself, but let's not pretend that the entire staff was amazing already. The D was great, but for the entirety of Harbaugh's time with the 49ers, we had one of the worst offenses in the league, year in and year out. The offensive staff was not getting the job done. From game planning to game management, then let us down time and time again.
Harbaugh had no coordinator experience either, heh

The Nolan suit and tie
So I guess it was Tomsula spreading the rumors during the season. Weasel gets his prize.

i had to talk my youngest daughter off the ledge. she can not understand why ,if they were going to do this, hire fangio instead. i told her there must have been something they did not like about fangio cuz i basically did not know what else to tell her, now if fangio leaves, that is the least of my worries,
that being said, I am just underwhelmed by this, i think my friend phoenix said it best, i am going to try to keep a open mind because to me the biggest hire they do is the qb coach and the offensive coordinator. if they get a top tier staff than i will be more willing to accept this move. i do think our new coach is the anti jh from the standpoint he will not micromanage, he will let the oc do his or her stuff. the key is what happens next and trust me , that is the only thing that keeping me from jumping with todays news. i am not a believer in letting the inmates run the asylum but if this moves also keeps gore, cox, skuta and country around ok thats good news to but right now i just do not know. oh and i hope the first thing the new coach does is to make one locker room and stop this silly house divided two locker room b******t under the former regime.. but phoenix said what i feel

Walsh was kept on as a special consultant with the team long after he left as the GM in 01. They knew how important he was to this franchise and kept him as close as they could for as long as he could until he got sick.

Walsh was pushed out by Terry D. and Parrag. (yes Walsh did bring TD in/bad move)

Walsh was working for Stanford at the end when he was very ill.

Being ill had nothing to do w/him leaving the 9ers.

Tough to find, but its out there, and was pretty well documented a little after the fact.

Just the loss of the defensive staff alone is huge, the incredible work they did in coaching up and developing younger players, late round guys, undrafted guys...etc. I was never any fan of the offensive coaching staff other than Rathman and Solari who I thought got a bum rap.

I'm going to be watching carefully all the people that they hire for the staff. If Tomsula really is widely respected as people like Mariucci claim, he should have no trouble drawing plenty of highly talented, highly regarded assistants with good track records in quality organizations.
