Probably more of the same. lol

I imagine he'll have different clothes in the various press conferences, though.

Well this was from the press conference when he was hired as the interim HC last time:

I imagine he'll be wearing a suit tomorrow, though. lol

I totally get the diappointment. I was really hoping for Gase myself and the JT news was deflating when I read it. But the pendulum has swung so far over into the doom and gloom rhetoric as to be laughable.

We don't know that yet. I agree that he's more experienced as a coach and a better coach overall but the potential is always there for him to fall flat on his face. The 49ers went out and hired a guy that nobody else even wanted to talk to. The reports about him politicking for the job during the season are also kind of worrisome.

Like I said, I'll reserve further judgment until I see what the coaching staff ends up looking like.

Couldn't agree more. One thing I noticed that really irked me and tipped me that Tomsula was already told he would be the 2016 head coach is that the last 2 games of the season (which I was at) Tomsula was always standing out on the field (like the head coach). He would literally run out in front of Harbaugh to bark out things on both offensive and defensive drives. It seemed extremely disrespectful to Harbaugh and like a pretty sleazy political move to burn in everyone's brains that he looks like a head coach.

How do we gain anything by hiring a guy in-house with no NFL coordinator experience/expertise and NO connections to good OC's and DC's. We could have easily hired Shannahan or Gase, justified keeping Fangio and not rocked the boat at all while improving the offense. Now we lost a top 3 DC, what would have been a top 5 OC (serving as HC), and the entire staff.

I don't want this team to fail just to spite York, but if this drags us back into losing season mediocrity I would prefer the 49ers to fall right on it's face and make the necessary changes swiftly (actual outside and well consulted GM search, get a franchise qb, and hold out for excellent coaching candidate).

Now that I've went and had a really good leg workout out, cooled off, chugged some protein and come back here... I'm still pissed, what were we thinking... everyone was tripping cuz we might lose Fangio for some one who can fix the offense. Congrats guys we lost Fangio and have no one to fix the offense... I'm going to go work out..

Man, you mean nobody will be hired to run the offense? I hope the defense can score 20-25 points a game.

Hysterical over reactions all over the place. There is nothing we can do so let's roll with it and give him a shot.

The staff will determine a lot. If they bring in a Mickey Mouse staff, I won't see much reason for optimism. If you replace established coaches like Fangio, Donatell and Solari with random hacks, that will not bode well IMO.

Certainly. No game to prepare for all night this Sunday.

Remember that, though - for a meaningless Week 17 game he stayed up ALL NIGHT to prepare for it upon getting the call to be the HC for that game, to the point where he barely made the press conference.

That's certainly a positive attribute in his favor.

So we literally just got rid of all of harbaughs guys, and kept tomsula and rathman (who were here before)

Yup. Management's intentions are pretty clear. They want to completely cleanse themselves of anything having to do with Harbaugh, much in the same way the Dorks tried to cleanse themselves of anything to do with Walsh. All coming full circle. Some people don't know how to handle and sustain success.

Wait, what?

After Mariucci's firing, we completely overhauled the philosophy of the team. Stopped running the WCO offense for the first time in 24 years so we could hire that loser Erickson. Then when they had the chance to right that wrong, they hire Nolan, and then Singletary. Then they luck out with Harbaugh, who was already coaching in the area and had an interest in making an easy transition to the NFL, and they managed to f**k that up too.

Boom. Everything you said.

There is far more reason to doubt then to believe. I honestly believe they got lucky with Harbaugh. Its the only smart thing the Yorks have done. Period. Its exactly as you said.

Baalke/ScottyMac had set up a team with personnel that matched Harbaugh's philosophy, his wife was pregnant, and he turned down ~+$3mil-a-year from Miami. He was the hottest coaching candidate that offseason and he had strong Northern California connections with Stanford.

What did York really do other than not say no? I'm glad he didn't hire Lombardi instead of Baalke. But it wasn't like York did some extensive research, combed through all the candidates, and depleted every ounce of his football acumen and resources finding a coach that would lead us to three NFCCs.

And now we have Tomsula. And I wouldn't be surprised if York has already made up his mind he would hire Tomsula halfway through the season. And they went through the search for a head coach with the hope that 1) it'd help make the Tomsula hire look legit a long with other candidates fully vetted, and 2) a fully legit head coach would be able to argue themselves obvious.

I hope Baalke/York have the vision and football intelligence to make us all look like fools, I just can't believe that at this point.

Tomsula isnt Singletary

A position coach his entire career with no NFL head coaching experience.

Singletary had no HC or coordinator experience ANYWHERE.

as much as i am underwhelmed today,, we MUST allow them the benefit of the doubt to see what staff he puts in place. i have always said that i never hate a niner player until he gives me a reason to hate him ,, well the same must be said for the new coach. so far i just hear good things from mooch to some of the niner players which is nice ,, but i can not pass judgement till i see the staff he puts around him and sees how he actually coaches.

Tomsula has done that his entire career with the 49ers. It's the type of coach he is. Have you not watched many games before or not paid attention to what he was doing before? No disrespect, but that's the only treason I can think of somebody thinking he wasn't like that his whole career with us.

(and I assume you meant 2015?)

He's such a likeable dude. I really hope he's successful. And I hope he doesn't conform to a suit and tie.

I never understood the Hype on Gase. I would have rather had Kyle Shanahan or Josh McDaniels personally, but i guess everyone has their own opinions of a good hire.

What i dont understand is how so many people can go from being absolutely in love with Tomsula as an Assistant coach, to thinking he is a yes man, and simpleton that cant even read an x and o off a clipboard.

You know who else had no coordinator experience and had never been more than a position coach before becoming a HC? John Harbaugh. Super Bowl winning coach and perennial winner and in the playoffs.
Guess Jed saw the reaction...

Matt Maiocco ‏@MaioccoCSN

Update: Many of the assistant coaches have been called and are continuing to be called to be updated on 49ers' plans.

Ummmm John Harbaugh was a Special Teams COORDINATOR for 99% of his career.
