We don't know that yet. I agree that he's more experienced as a coach and a better coach overall but the potential is always there for him to fall flat on his face. The 49ers went out and hired a guy that nobody else even wanted to talk to. The reports about him politicking for the job during the season are also kind of worrisome.
Like I said, I'll reserve further judgment until I see what the coaching staff ends up looking like.
Couldn't agree more. One thing I noticed that really irked me and tipped me that Tomsula was already told he would be the 2016 head coach is that the last 2 games of the season (which I was at) Tomsula was always standing out on the field (like the head coach). He would literally run out in front of Harbaugh to bark out things on both offensive and defensive drives. It seemed extremely disrespectful to Harbaugh and like a pretty sleazy political move to burn in everyone's brains that he looks like a head coach.
How do we gain anything by hiring a guy in-house with no NFL coordinator experience/expertise and NO connections to good OC's and DC's. We could have easily hired Shannahan or Gase, justified keeping Fangio and not rocked the boat at all while improving the offense. Now we lost a top 3 DC, what would have been a top 5 OC (serving as HC), and the entire staff.
I don't want this team to fail just to spite York, but if this drags us back into losing season mediocrity I would prefer the 49ers to fall right on it's face and make the necessary changes swiftly (actual outside and well consulted GM search, get a franchise qb, and hold out for excellent coaching candidate).
Tomsula has done that his entire career with the 49ers. It's the type of coach he is. Have you not watched many games before or not paid attention to what he was doing before? No disrespect, but that's the only treason I can think of somebody thinking he wasn't like that his whole career with us.
(and I assume you meant 2015?)
I'm a season ticket holder and watch that sideline alot. He used to occasionally come out to call things out to the defensive line. By the end it got to the point that he would just post up, literally in front of Harbaugh, and do it for both offense and defense. It was to the point that if you were to ask anyone who had no knowledge of the team who the head coach was they would say Tomsula (and that's saying alot because it's not like Harbaugh is a passive guy). It just reeked of a political move and rubbed me the wrong way.

Turn it into whatever you want to support whatever you want. It's what people do best around here.
Didn't mean to come off that way. Just remember reading he was down to stick around in a bigger capacity, but instead he was told he wasn't needed.

Tomsula isnt Singletary
A position coach his entire career with no NFL head coaching experience.
Singletary had no HC or coordinator experience ANYWHERE.
You know who else had no coordinator experience and had never been more than a position coach before becoming a HC? John Harbaugh. Super Bowl winning coach and perennial winner and in the playoffs.
Ummmm John Harbaugh was a Special Teams COORDINATOR for 99% of his career.
Special Teams coordinator is not the same thing we are talking about, and you know that. So "Ummmm" yourself. lol

Probably more of the same. lol
I imagine he'll have different clothes in the various press conferences, though.
Well this was from the press conference when he was hired as the interim HC last time:
I imagine he'll be wearing a suit tomorrow, though. lol
Probably Sharkskin suit with giant gold-rimmed shades and a pinky ring.

Phoenix mentioned earlier about reports that Tomsula campaigned for the job this season. Is this what the reports focused on? Him running out there? Anybody??
Really anxious for more info about all this. What a crazy f**kin off season already!
Is Jed incompetent? Like is he really a f**kin moron? Is his goal to save $ by getting rid of almost all the coaching staff? What do people think is his true intentions with all this s**t?

I'm going to go work out..
Man, you mean nobody will be hired to run the offense? I hope the defense can score 20-25 points a game.
No one we wanted

No, I really think this is a BS hire. Sorry.
I saw guys like Bowles, Gase, Quinn as the "Un-York" candidates to show that they had really turned over a new leaf from when his old man ran the team, getting highly regarded candidates that multiple other teams were also pursuing.
Tomsula is about as "York" of a hire as it gets, cheap, convenient, nobody else was offering him a head coaching gig so you know he'll kiss your ass forever.
Looking back on their earlier comments, it seems like he was the guy all along, they just didn't want the criticism they received when Singletary started to bomb and they caught flack for not doing a more intensive coaching search in the first place, so they put on a charade.
I can't wait to see what kind of disaster the OC and DC hires entail.
This is the stuff I will never understand.
York has hired TWO coaches in his tenure. You could argue Sing, but does that sound at all like the Harbaugh hire?
To me, this is all dramatic hyperbole for people who wanted a sexier name when in reality NONE of those other guys was a great candidate to begin with. Gase? Bowles? Really?
The only name that ever held my interest was Shanahan...and Kubiak for a bit.

I can't see him starting the rumors and causing all the hate for hsrbaugh. That sounds crazy....if he did that than a person with that type of character isn't strong enough or a good enough leader to coach an entire team and coaches.
We do not know what this guy is capable of. I definately was rooting for gase, I thought I even saw a tweet about his being hired...strange...I was excited...then not when I saw this...
The guys that are saying he is a yes man, I believe are on the money. We'll see...

Are you just asking random rhetorical questions and directing them at me, or are you just lashing out because you are upset about this offseason?

I don't know how to respond you either. How is it not disrespectful for a DL coach to undermine a head coach like that?
